Ryne Nelson tossed 5 2/3 solid innings and earned the win Wednesday afternoon for the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks, who cooled off the surging New York Mets 7-2.

Corbin Carroll and Ildemaro Vargas had three hits apiece for the Diamondbacks, who have won six of nine since being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in a season-opening three-game series.

Carroll and Jorge Barrosa each had two-run doubles, while Gabriel Moreno, Ketel Marte and Geraldo Perdomo had an RBI apiece. Jose Fernandez added two hits.

Brett Baty had an RBI single, and Mark Vientos lofted a sacrifice fly for the Mets, who won their previous four games by a combined score of 28-8. Baty, Luis Robert Jr. and Bo Bichette had two hits each.

Nelson (1-0) gave up one run on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts. The right-hander didn't allow a hit until the fourth, when Bichette delivered a sharp leadoff single up the middle.

David Peterson (0-2) took the loss for the Mets after allowing five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings. Peterson has given up 11 runs (10 earned) over 9 1/3 innings in his last two starts.

The Diamondbacks wasted little time going ahead in the first. Carroll doubled with one out, moved to third on Perdomo's single and scored on Moreno's sacrifice fly.

The Diamondbacks scored four runs on four hits in the second, when Vargas and Fernandez opened with singles before advancing on Tim Tawa's bunt. Barrosa walked before Vargas scored on Marte's single. Carroll followed with a two-run double, and Perdomo hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Marte.

The Mets chased Nelson with three singles in the sixth, including Baty's run-scoring hit. Vargas and Fernandez singled with one out in the eighth, after which Tawa drew a walk and Barrosa doubled off Robert's glove in deep center field.

Robert singled with one out in the bottom of the inning, went to third on Baty's double and scored on Vientos' fly out to right.
