Field Level Media

Darius Garland scored 40 points on 14-of-22 shooting, helping the Cleveland Cavaliers narrowly avoid an upset with a 132-126 win over the visiting Toronto Raptors on Wednesday.

The Cavaliers, who trailed by 12 points in the third quarter, extended their winning streak to 12 games while handing the Raptors their fourth loss in a row.

Cleveland's Evan Mobley scored 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting in addition to grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out six assists. Jarrett Allen chipped in 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting and grabbed a team-high 15 rebounds, while Caris LeVert also had 18 points.

Scottie Barnes led the Raptors with 24 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Chris Boucher followed with 23 points off the bench, hitting 5 of 8 from 3-point range, and pulled down 12 rebounds. RJ Barrett added 20 points, and Jakob Poeltl had 17 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Mavericks 117, Trail Blazers 111

Jaden Hardy came off the bench to score a season-high 25 points and Dallas closed with an 18-2 run to rally for a victory over visiting Portland.

P.J. Washington recorded 23 points, 14 rebounds and three steals, and Dereck Lively II added 21 points, a season-best 16 rebounds and three blocked shots for the Mavericks. Spencer Dinwiddie scored 17 points and Quentin Grimes added 13 for Dallas, which won its second game in a row following a five-game skid.

Shaedon Sharpe had 22 points and eight rebounds, and Anfernee Simons also had 22 for Portland, which led nearly the entire contest before the late collapse.

Rockets 119, Grizzlies 115

Alperen Sengun collected 32 points, 14 rebounds and five assists, Jalen Green added 27 points and Fred VanVleet contributed 22 to lead Houston past Memphis for its fifth straight road victory.

Ja Morant paced the Grizzlies with 27 points, and Jaren Jackson Jr. had 21 points and eight rebounds. Santi Aldama came off the bench to finish with 12 points and nine rebounds. Jackson, the Western Conference Defensive Player of the Month for December, had a season-high six blocks.

Morant and Aldama returned to action Thursday after brief injury-induced absences. Morant had been out since Dec. 27 with a shoulder injury, and Aldama hadn't played since Dec. 26 because of an ankle sprain. Desmond Bane also returned after missing Monday's win over Dallas with an ankle injury. He scored 16 points.

Timberwolves 104, Magic 89

Julius Randle collected 23 points and 10 rebounds and Anthony Edwards added 21 points, lifting visiting Minnesota to a victory over Orlando.

Edwards had seven assists and joined Donte DiVincenzo in draining four 3-pointers to pace the Timberwolves to their third win in a row. Edwards, however, made just 5 of 19 shots from the floor and 4 of 11 from beyond the arc. Naz Reid scored 16 points off the bench, DiVincenzo finished with 12 and Rudy Gobert recorded 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Timberwolves.

Orlando's Goga Bitadze collected 15 points and eight rebounds and Caleb Houstan had 14 points. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 13 points and Cole Anthony added 12 for the Magic.

Warriors 107, Pistons 104

Buddy Hield scored 19 points and Stephen Curry had 17 points, nine rebounds and six assists to help lead Golden State past host Detroit.

Trayce Jackson-Davis added 14 points and 10 rebounds for Golden State, which ended a two-game skid. Cade Cunningham had 32 points, eight assists, six rebounds and three steals, and Malik Beasley scored 21 points for Detroit, which had its five-game winning streak snapped.

After trailing by 18 midway through the fourth quarter, Detroit rallied and cut the deficit to 102-98 with 1:21 remaining in the game on a basket by Jalen Duren. A dunk by Beasley with 23 seconds left sliced the gap to 104-102, but the Pistons could not complete the comeback.

Suns 123, Hawks 115

Bradley Beal scored a game-high 25 points off the bench, leading Phoenix past visiting Atlanta for its second win in its last three games.

Grayson Allen and Kevin Durant added 23 points apiece for the Suns, and Devin Booker collected 20 points and 12 assists.

Trae Young led Atlanta with 21 points and seven assists and Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 17 points as the Hawks finished their road trip with a 2-4 record.

Heat 97, Jazz 92

Tyler Herro scored 23 points and Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 20 as Miami sent Utah to its ninth consecutive home loss in Salt Lake City.

Herro and Jaquez each drained key free throws in the waning moments as Miami improved to 2-1 on its six-game trip. Bam Adebayo contributed 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots in the victory. Adebayo hit two buckets in a row with under three minutes left to break an 86-86 tie.

Lauri Markkanen and Collin Sexton each scored 23 points for the Jazz, who lost their second straight overall. Utah overcame an 11-point third-quarter deficit but fell short.

Player Notes
Zion Williamson Fri Jan 10 5:30pm

According to Shams Charania, New Orleans Pelicans forwardZion Williamson(suspension) won't suit up against the 76ers due to being suspended one game for violating team policies. Williamson's next opportunity to return to the floor is on Sunday against Boston. Herbert Jones(shoulder) will also be missing in action. With Williamson and Jones sidelined, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl,Javonte Green, andBrandon Boston will take on more minutes and will potentially have more scoring chances than usual.

Paolo Banchero Fri Jan 10 5:20pm

The Orlando Magic announced that Orlando Magic forwardPaolo Banchero(oblique) is expected to make his return on Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks. Banchero has missed the last 34 contests due to a right oblique strain. Fantasy managers need to be aware that while the 22-year-old should jump back into the Magic's starting five, his minutes will likely be restricted in the contest. Caleb Houston and Tristan Da Silva could see some extra minutes for the time being against Milwaukee.

Aaron Gordon Fri Jan 10 5:00pm

Denver Nuggets forwardAaron Gordon (calf) is listed as doubtful for Friday's matchup with the Brooklyn Nets. Gordon has been out eight consecutive contests due to a calf issue. If he is unavailable for this evening his next opportunity to suit up comes on Sunday against the Mavs. The 29-year-old has played well this season, but he's only been on the floor for 16 games. Russell Westbrookwill likely continue to get the nod to start in place of Gordon until his return.

Myles Turner Fri Jan 10 4:50pm

Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner (illness) has been listed on the injury report as questionable while he deals with an illness. If he's able to give it a go, he'll go up against a banged-up Golden State Warriors team who will be down Draymond Green (back), Jonathan Kuminga (ankle), and maybe Trayce Jackson-Davis (eye - questionable). On the other hand, Thomas Bryant would probably stay in the starting five if Turner doesn't suit up. Bryant posted 22 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and two steals in their last game against the Bulls.

De'Aaron Fox Fri Jan 10 4:40pm

Sacramento Kings guard De'Aaron Fox (glute) has been ruled out for a third consecutive game and will miss Friday's matchup against the Boston Celtics. The star point guard is still plagued by a right glute contusion and there hasn't been any official word on his return. Keon Ellis has taken over the spot in the starting five and has averaged 14.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.5 steals while Fox has been out. He serves as the best streaming option in most leagues while Kevin Huerter could be deployed into lineups in deeper leagues.

Draymond Green Fri Jan 10 4:40pm

Golden State Warriors forward/center Draymond Green (back) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Indiana Pacers due to a back injury. The veteran is likely receiving some rest in the second half of their back-to-back after posting seven points, five rebounds, four assists, one steal, and three blocks on Thursday. With Jonathan Kuminga (ankle) also ruled out, Kevon Looney will likely move into the starting five unless Trayce Jackson-Davis (eye - questionable) can suit up. Looney provides solid rebounding and blocks while Jackson-Davis would be the better streaming option if he plays.

Herbert Jones Fri Jan 10 4:30pm

New Orleans Pelicans forward Herbert Jones (shoulder) is now out indefinitely due to a torn labrum in his right shoulder. ESPN's Shams Charania reports that Jones will be sidelined and there likely won't be any timetable on his return for a little while. Jones left their last game against the Trail Blazers with the shoulder injury after playing 18 minutes and registering one assist and two steals. Jones has been the team's best defender, so there are some big shoes to fill for the 7-31 Pelicans. With a lot of their wings on the injury report, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Brandon Boston Jr. will likely be the best streaming options.

Paul George Fri Jan 10 4:30pm

Philadelphia 76ers guard/forward Paul George (groin) is listed as probable for Friday's game against the New Orleans Pelicans after being able to practice on Thursday despite the left groin tightness he was experiencing. George only needed to miss one game this time around after posting 13 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals in their game against the Suns. George has been a better contributor on defense and other traditional stats outside of efficiency so far this season.

Karl-Anthony Towns Fri Jan 10 4:30pm

New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns (knee) has drawn a questionable status on Friday for their matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Knicks will likely need all hands on deck to beat the Western Conference-leading Thunder despite Chet Holmgren (hip) being out. Towns was able to play against the Raptors on Wednesday and posted a stat line of 27 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, three steals, and two blocks. If he's downgraded, Jericho Sims would move into the starting five while Precious Achiuwa would get some more minutes off of the bench. Achiuwa is the more consistent producer for fantasy managers looking for a streamer in that case.

Joel Embiid Fri Jan 10 4:20pm

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid (foot) will miss another game due to the foot sprain he suffered against the Brooklyn Nets. While he watches from the sidelines on Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans, Guerschon Yabusele will likely get the starting spot again since Andre Drummond (toe) is also out. Yabusele turned in a huge game on Wednesday with 21 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and one steal while knocking down five threes. He remains the best streaming option whenever Embiid is out.

Stephen Curry Fri Jan 10 4:20pm

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (knee) will miss Friday's game against the Indiana Pacers while the team manages his knee injury. The superstar sharpshooter does get some back-to-back games off, so that the team can maximize his health throughout the season, and this is one of those cases. With the rest of the backcourt banged up, Dennis Schroder and Moses Moody (knee - probable) will likely see plenty of playing time. Schroder and Buddy Hield would serve as the best streaming options though as they both started in their last game and posted 13 points, six assists, and 19 points with five rebounds, respectively.

Tyrese Haliburton Fri Jan 10 4:10pm

Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton (ankle) drew a questionable tag for Friday's game against the Golden State Warriors while dealing with a right ankle sprain. The star point guard hasn't missed a game yet this season, so this could be his first absence through the first 39 games. If he's unable to suit up, Andrew Nembhard and Bennedict Mathurin will get instant boosts in fantasy value while T.J. McConnell may move into the starting five. Nembhard had the biggest game of the three in their last game with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Dejounte Murray Fri Jan 10 4:10pm

New Orleans Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray (elbow/shin) is considered questionable for Friday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers. If he's able to play, he should receive a sizeable fantasy boost with Trey Murphy III (ankle), Herbert Jones (shoulder), and Brandon Ingram (ankle) all ruled out. With that being said, if he's downgraded to out, CJ McCollum would likely lead the offense. Javonte Green and Jordan Hawkins would both get some extra opportunities with the latter more likely to have a bigger role in the offense.

Jalen Suggs Fri Jan 10 4:00pm

Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs (back) has been ruled out for the fourth consecutive game while he deals with a lower back strain. There hasn't been any official word on when he may return, so fantasy managers will likely have to take his status day by day. In the meantime, Cole Anthony and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope continue to be the starting backcourt. Anthony did a little of everything on Thursday against the Timberwolves with 12 points, five assists, three rebounds, two steals, and two blocks across 27 minutes.

Paolo Banchero Fri Jan 10 3:50pm

Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero (conditioning) has officially been listed as questionable for Friday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Shams Charania of ESPN reported earlier this week that Banchero would likely make his long-awaited return on Friday, so this could be more of a formality to make sure he feels okay through shootaround and warmups. Just in case, fantasy managers can look to Caleb Houstan as a streaming option after he posted 14 points, one rebound, one assist, and four threes in the first half of their back-to-back on Thursday.

Darius Garland Fri Jan 10 2:30am

Cavaliers' G Darius Garland scored 40 points on 14-of-22 shooting in a 132-126 win over the Raptors on Thursday, Jan. 9.

Nikola Jokic Thu Jan 9 8:50pm

Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic (illness) is questionable for Friday's matchup with the visiting Nets. The 29-year-old hasn't felt well, keeping him off the floor for the Nuggets' previous two games. DeAndre Jordan most recently started in his place, finishing with 12 points, nine boards, and two steals against the Clippers on Wednesday night. If Jokic misses another game, Jordan and Dario Saric should continue to benefit, although both are risky fantasy options. But if Jokic returns to the lineup, he's a must-start against a Brooklyn squad that has been decimated by injuries.

Santi Aldama Thu Jan 9 7:50pm

Memphis Grizzlies forward Santi Aldama (ankle) will play on Thursday night against the Rockets. He's had the best year of his career in 2024-25, averaging 13.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists while shooting 38.8% from behind the arc. The 24-year-old missed the previous six games because of a sprained left ankle. However, with Ja Morant (shoulder), Jaren Jackson Jr. (thigh), and Desmond Bane (ankle) all available, Aldama could have trouble getting involved at a high level on the offensive end. Still, his presence will likely result in less work for Jake LaRavia.

Desmond Bane Thu Jan 9 7:30pm

Memphis Grizzlies guard/forward Desmond Bane (ankle) will rejoin the action on Thursday against Houston. The team has upgraded him from questionable to available. Bane scored at least 22 points in four straight contests before an ankle sprain knocked him out of the lineup for Monday's tilt against Dallas. Luckily for the Grizzlies, Bane will be able to return to the lineup after missing just one game. Memphis also has Ja Morant (shoulder) back on Thursday, so Houston's top-class defense faces a big challenge. The two combined for 41 points in this season's first clash with the Rockets.

Jaren Jackson Jr. Thu Jan 9 7:30pm

Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. (thigh) will suit up versus the Rockets on Thursday. The 25-year-old missed the first two games of the 2024-25 campaign. However, he's been on the court ever since, with that trend continuing on Thursday against Houston. Jackson has had a fantastic season, averaging a career-high 22.7 points with 6.4 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and 1.5 steals, making him a must-start in all fantasy formats despite a challenging matchup against a Rockets team that has allowed only 106.8 points per game, the third-best in the National Basketball Association.
