Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones completed seven of his 11 passes for 101 yards in a 23-19 preseason loss to the Green Bay Packers on Saturday. Jones got the start and played the entire first quarter, although he was unable to lead the Colts on any scoring drives in the contest. He then stepped aside as the Colts turned to Anthony Richardson Sr. in the second quarter. The two signal-callers have been locked in a preseason battle to be the team's starting quarterback in Week 1 in what has appeared to be a close competition thus far. It appears that the team may be ready to name the winner soon, as head coach Shane Steichen told reporters after the game that he's "very close" to naming his Week 1 starter. If Jones ends up getting the call, he would set up as a high-end QB3 for fantasy purposes.
From RotoBaller
Miami Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon II continued his strong preseason with 50 rushing yards on 10 carries against the Lions on Saturday and also caught both of his targets for nine more yards. With starter De'Von Achane dealing with a soft-tissue lower-body injury that will keep him out between "days and weeks," according to coach Mike McCarthy, the competition for the backup running back spot is even more critical. Gordon struggled in the first half with just two yards on two carries, but showed up with 48 yards on eight carries in the second half while the Dolphins came back to claim the victory. Last week, Gordon had eight carries for 33 yards and a touchdown while catching one of three targets for 39 yards against the Bears. The rookie is battling for playing time with Jaylen Wright and Mike Boone, with Alexander Mattison (neck) out for the year. Gordon's strong preseason showing and good short-yardage skill set make him an early-season sleeper to watch if he can claim the No. 2 spot on the depth chart behind Achane, who is expected to be ready for Week 1 but has had durability concerns throughout his NFL career.
From RotoBaller
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Theo Wease Jr. caught a pair of second-half touchdown passes from fellow rookie Quinn Ewers in his team's 24-17 win over the Lions. Wease led the team with 80 receiving yards and tied for the team lead with six catches on his busy Saturday in Detroit. The undrafted rookie receiver out of Missouri and Oklahoma is battling for a roster spot and made a huge statement with his performance in Week 2 of the preseason. The Dolphins' wide receiver corps is very deep, led by Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle as star starters, with Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Malik Washington rounding out the strong top four. Dee Eskridge and Tahj Washington also appear to be ahead of Wease at this point, with Wease likely headed for the practice squad. However, this huge performance could help him push past one of those options and secure a spot on the 53-man roster. Keep an eye on how the depth chart looks to see where Wease could fit into the team's regular-season plans.
From RotoBaller
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. completed six of his 11 passes for 73 yards and added a nine-yard rush in a 23-19 preseason loss to the Green Bay Packers on Saturday. Richardson relieved Daniel Jones and played most of the second quarter, leading the Colts on a 90-yard drive that culminated with a Tyler Goodson three-yard touchdown run. Richardson and Jones are still locked into a preseason battle for the Colts' QB1 role, but it appears that they won't have to wait much longer. After the game, head coach Shane Steichen told reporters that he's "very close" to naming his starting quarterback. The Colts' preseason finale comes against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday. Richardson would set up as an upside QB2 in fantasy drafts if he emerges from camp as Indy's starter.
From RotoBaller
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Diontae Johnson caught one of his three targets for a seven-yard gain in a 22-13 preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday. Johnson got the start for the Browns and was able to haul in a seven-yard pass on the team's first drive of the game, helping lead to a four-yard Ahmani Marshall touchdown run. The veteran wideout fared better than he did in the team's preseason opener last week, where he was unable to corral either of his two targets. Johnson and Jamari Thrash appear to be locked into a battle for the team's WR3 job behind Jerry Jeudy and Cedric Tillman. He will look to separate himself from Thrash next week in Cleveland's preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams.
From RotoBaller
Miami Dolphins quarterback Quinn Ewers had a big second half in the team's second preseason game on Saturday, throwing for 116 yards and two touchdowns by completing 11 of his 17 pass attempts. He entered the game trailing 14-7 but led two touchdown drives and led the team to a 24-17 victory over the Dolphins. Both of Ewers' touchdown passes went to fellow rookie Theo Wease Jr. as both players look to establish their positions on the roster. The rookie quarterback from Texas was a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after throwing for 9,128 yards, 68 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions in 36 games over three seasons with the Longhorns. Ewers is currently competing with Zach Wilson for the team's backup role behind Tua Tagovailoa, and both potential backups had strong showings against Detroit. Wilson played ahead of Ewers on Saturday, but Ewers stepped up with a much better showing than he had in his preseason debut against the Bears.
From RotoBaller
Cleveland Browns running back Pierre Strong Jr. carried the ball 13 times for 89 yards and caught four of his five targets for 10 yards in a 22-13 preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday. With Jerome Ford inactive, Strong got the start and led the team in rushing in the game. He made a good impression as he averaged 6.8 yards per carry, including a 54-yard run that he ripped off early in the fourth quarter. Strong is fighting for a depth role behind Ford and Dylan Sampson as the Browns near their preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.
From RotoBaller
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Cedric Tillman caught his lone target for an 18-yard gain in a 22-13 preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday. Tillman got the start and played for a short time after he did not suit up for the team's preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers last week. The third-year wideout hauled in his lone target on the Browns' second drive of the game. Tillman had some big weeks late in the 2024 season before a concussion ended his year early, but he still holds plenty of fantasy value as a sleeper in a Cleveland receiver room that is wide open behind Jerry Jeudy. He's worth a look as a dart throw WR6 late in fantasy drafts later this summer.
From RotoBaller
Cleveland Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel completed 13 of his 18 passes for 143 yards and an interception in a 22-13 preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday. Gabriel also rushed twice for one yard and lost a fumble in the win. The rookie signal-caller got off to a fast start, completing eight of his nine pass attempts in the first quarter before cooling off in the second. Gabriel led a touchdown drive and two field-goal drives during his half of play, but his interception was ugly as he threw a 75-yard pick-six early in the second quarter. Gabriel, who missed last week's preseason opener with a hamstring injury, will look to continue to compete to open the regular season as the Browns' starting quarterback. The team's preseason finale comes against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.
From RotoBaller
New York Jets running back Braelon Allen rushed seven times for 34 yards in his team's 31-12 preseason loss to the New York Giants. Allen and teammate Breece Hall again evenly rotated in with the starting offense on the field, though the latter out-touched him 7-to-4 and picked up the only target between them. However, the Wisconsin alum seemed to be the preferred option in short-yardage situations. It's unknown if that was by happenstance or if head coach Aaron Glenn schemed it up. If that was the plan, it could mean that Allen will be the goal-line back come the regular season. He's the more imposing rusher of the two -- and looked more explosive on Saturday -- but it's fair to wonder how much that role will mean with the threat of quarterback Justin Fields vulturing a touchdown alive and well. In all, this situation is fluid and portends to be a frustrating one for fantasy managers. Allen and the rest of the starters will likely get a little longer of a look next Friday when they face the Philadelphia Eagles at home in their preseason finale.
From RotoBaller
Kicker Jake Moody was responsible for nearly all of the 49ers' points in their 22-19 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday. Moody tacked on the extra point for Jeff Wilson Jr.'s touchdown in the second quarter and was 5-for-6 on field goal attempts. The lone miss was from 53 yards out, but the 25-year-old hit from 26, 30, 44, and 50 yards away before capping his day off with a 59-yarder as time expired to put San Francisco over the top. The performance was encouraging, though fantasy managers still don't need to go out of their way to select him in drafts. Last season, Moody was 10-for-20 on kicks beyond 40 yards, and since joining the league in 2023, his 76.3% conversion rate ranks last among kickers with at least 30 field goal attempts in that time. Moody gets one last tune-up before the regular season when the 49ers host the Chargers on August 23.
From RotoBaller
Running back Jeff Wilson Jr. scored the 49ers' lone touchdown in the team's 22-19 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday. It was Wilson's first game back with his former team after having spent the last three seasons with the Dolphins. The 29-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Niners earlier this week after Ameer Abdullah (ribs) was placed on injured reserve. Wilson finished the game with just 16 yards on the ground, but his eight rushing attempts were second-most on the team. He also had another 16 yards on his sole reception of the game. Wilson will have one more chance to jockey for placement on the depth chart before the regular season. The 49ers' final preseason game is August 23 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
From RotoBaller
Wide receiver Robbie Chosen caught five of his seven targets for 92 receiving yards in the 49ers' 22-19 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday. His numbers led the team in each category in San Francisco's second preseason game. The 32-year-old veteran is buried on the depth chart, even with the statuses of Brandon Aiyuk (knee) and Jauan Jennings (calf) in question. Chosen spent each of the last two seasons with the Miami Dolphins, shuttling between their practice squad and regular roster. The journeyman wideout spent the 2024 preseason with the 49ers but was among the final cuts when the team finalized its 53-man roster ahead of the regular season. Chosen's final in-game audition for a roster spot will come August 23 when the Niners wrap up the preseason against the Los Angeles Chargers.
From RotoBaller
Quarterback Mac Jones was a crisp 13-for-16 for 135 passing yards in the 49ers' 22-19 win over the Raiders on Saturday afternoon. Jones got off to a shaky start after taking the reins from Brock Purdy, who helmed San Francisco's first drive. On his third pass attempt of the game, Jones sent a ball to wide receiver Robbie Chosen, but the route was easily jumped by Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn, who intercepted the pass. Jones recovered well following the miscue, putting touch on his passes and hitting receivers in stride before handing things over to Carter Bradley in the fourth quarter. Jones' place as Purdy's direct backup on San Francisco's depth chart is secure. He will get one more chance to see live action before the regular season in the 49ers' final preseason game on August 23 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
From RotoBaller
Quarterback Brock Purdy saw his first action of the 2025 preseason, though he was limited to just the first drive of the 49ers' 22-19 win over the Raiders on Saturday. It was announced prior to the game that Purdy would manage the first one or two drives, depending on their length, so that he could get in-game reps and develop chemistry with his receiving corps. The newly minted 265-million-dollar man showed plenty of chemistry with second-year wideout Ricky Pearsall. Purdy's first three pass attempts went to Pearsall, who secured them all for a total of 42 yards. Purdy completed two other passes on the 11-play drive, finishing 5-for-7 for 66 yards. Four of the five completions went for at least 11 yards. The 49ers' next and final tune-up before the regular season comes on August 23 when they take on their former head coach, Jim Harbaugh, and his Los Angeles Chargers.
From RotoBaller
New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson could not bring in any of his three targets in Saturday's 31-12 loss to the New York Giants. Quarterback Justin Fields attempted just five passes across the Jets' two series, with three of them going the 25-year-old's way. However, Wilson was arguably interfered with on two of his three opportunities, so the former Ohio State teammates aren't totally to blame for the seeming lack of chemistry. Either way, it appears that the wideout will be a target-hog again in his fourth professional campaign. A run-heavy New York offense could cause touchdown opportunities to be sparse. Wilson should be productive anyway, given the lack of receiving options around him. Look for him and his new QB to notch their first connection in the Jets' preseason finale, a home matchup with the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
From RotoBaller
New York Jets running back Breece Hall rushed for 26 yards on seven carries in his team's 31-12 loss to the New York Giants on Saturday. He failed to bring in his only target. Hall saw the team's first carry two plays into their opening possession, but was immediately relieved for backfield mate Braelon Allen on the next play from scrimmage. Allen was promptly stuffed for no gain on third-and-short, but remained on the field as the offense went for it on fourth down. The duo split pretty evenly for the next two series, with Hall out-touching him 7-to-4, though Allen notably operated in short-yardage situations. Whether that was the plan or a coincidence is unclear, but it's undoubtedly concerning for Hall's touchdown upside, as it leaves the door open for Allen to vulture him in those instances. Whatever the split, it seems these two are fated to cannibalize each other this season in the Jets' rushing attack. With the added threat of quarterback Justin Fields around the goal line, this backfield could be a source of headaches for fantasy managers. The Iowa State product will get one more preseason opportunity to make his case to be the lead back when New York squares off against the Philadelphia Eagles next Friday.
From RotoBaller
New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields completed 1-of-5 passes for four yards in Saturday's 31-12 loss to the New York Giants. He added five yards on his lone rush. The 26-year-old and the other Jets' starters got just two drives in this one, and the signal-caller had a rough time connecting with his intended targets. Still, he managed to score three points on their second possession, despite dropping back only twice. If that drive is any indication of how Gang Green projects to operate, we can expect some iteration of a West Coast offense from them - bombarding defenses with a run-centric approach and a short, quick passing attack. It seems likely that Fields and the rest of the first-stringers will get an extended look in their preseason finale as a final tune-up before the regular season. That comes against the visiting Philadelphia Eagles next Friday night.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Lions quarterback Hendon Hooker had his third straight subpar preseason showing on Saturday against the Miami Dolphins. The third-year signal-caller entered the game in the second half and completed just six of 13 passes for 61 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. Hooker was significantly outplayed by Lions quarterback Kyle Allen, who has started two out of the team's three preseason games and looks like the best option to back up Jared Goff when the regular season begins. Hooker was a third-round pick in 2023 and spent his rookie season recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in college, so he may need more time to develop. However, he's already 27 and does not appear ready to be the team's QB2, which likely puts him on the roster bubble in Detroit.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver Jackson Meeks had his second straight impressive preseason performance on Saturday against the Miami Dolphins. Meeks was targeted eight times and hauled in seven catches for 93 yards and one touchdown. Signed as an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse, Meeks is making his case for a roster spot in Detroit with stellar preseason play. In three games so far, he's recorded 11 catches for 176 yards and two touchdowns. The Lions are deep at wide receiver, so Meeks is still a long shot to be fantasy-relevant in 2025, barring injury to multiple Detroit wideouts.
