September 11 is never an easy day, especially as a native New Yorker. Even though I left NYC 30 years ago, I will always be a New Yorker. On this day I will never forget all the heroes and victims of 9/11. I started my day with this video remembering one hero in particular, the man in the red bandana. https://x.com/kendallbaker/status/1833645420972556408?s=42
Moving on to football, let's take a look at the standings after week 1.
Seed #1: Central Division leader: Shenkir 6 VPs 2-0 186 PF
John must have liked the team name I gave him (The John Shenkir Project) because he still hasn't changed it. Well, this project gets an A grade because Shenkir kicked ass in week 1. Look at his unsung heroes of week 1: Boutte with 16 pts (the only league I'm in where someone had Boutte on their roster), Penix 24 points, 25 pts from Quentin Johnston whom everyone left for dead, and he even managed to get the corpse of Deandre Hopkins to land as his flex with 11.5 pts. Well done.
Seed #2: West Division leader: Raffy 6 VPs 2-0 182 PF
Raffy was led by King Henry's 30 pts. His other RB, Chuba, put up 17+ pts. He doesn't have much depth behind these 2, but Raffy has a million WRs. Zay Flowers led the way with 28 pts.
Seed #3: East Division leader: Carter 4 VPs 1-1 174 PF
Nice start by Carter in his first season since the Moring nest. One of 2 things is true: Either he was the brainchild of the Moring team or he was able to escape the Moring Lab without being brainwashed. Nevertheless, Carter starts off by leading a very competitive East Division. He ended up drafting some of my favorite breakouts like Peasall and Egbuka plus had great weeks from Sampson, JCm, Dobbins, and Keon Coleman. This could be a scary team if these guys weren't one-week wonders.
Wildcard #1 Most VPs: Jeff 6 VPs 2-0 175 PF
After taking a hit by losing Kittle in week 1, Jeff aggressively went out to acquire the one player he wanted to draft, but was outbid on: Tyler Warren. Jeff had plenty of WR depth to make this quick decisive trade. I think this makes him an even bigger threat now when Kittle comes back. Coming into week 1, Jeff's biggest weakness was probably RB2-3, but he got 20 points from Javonte Williams in week 1 and even Swift played the majority of snaps. Jeff's team looms large this season.
Wildcard #2: Most VPs: Chris 5 VPs 2-0 173 PF
Things weren't looking great for Chris heading into Sunday night, but then the Ravens blew it in the 4th quarter and Josh Allen piled up 38 points. Then Chris's acquisition of the Bears defense came through for 14 points to beat me in revenge for me saying that Carter was the true brain of the Moring football family. Like the true Boomer dad that Chris is, after beating me he proclaimed "You got served" as if we were back in 2005.
Wildcard #3 Most points scored: Raucus 162 PF
John Dixon, seeing how tight that last playoff spot race was, spent $959 on the waiver wire in a spending spree only rivaled by maybe my girlfriend. Unlike my gf though, there were no discounts and sales in this purchase. Holy smokes: Calvin Austin $300, Daniel Jones $259, Tre Tucker $250, and Noah Fant $150. Austin's next highest bid was $100 and Jones's next highest bid was $30. There were no other bids on Fant or Tucker. Ouch.
7. Joe 161 PF 3 VPs 1-1
Welp, my WRs weren't that strong to begin with, but I lost Worthy after 3 plays and Waddle was banged up. I had to trade one of my TEs to get a WR for this week.
8. Johnny Vegas 154 PF 1 VP 0-2
It's a pretty solid team from top to bottom, but it was a low scoring week from his flexes in week 1.
9 Andrew 142 PF 0 VPs 0-2
It was a rough start for Andrew in both leagues. I blame it on me taking away his good luck charm James Conner.
10. Fins2Win 133 PF 2 VPs 1-1
They say 2 heads are better than 1, but are 3 heads? Hmm, sounds like a good research project. Anyway, Beltrami, Beltrami Jr, and Moon have a better team than this, but it seems like their good WRs decided to take a vacation day in week 1.
11. Beer Guzzlers 131 PF O VPs 0-2
Speaking of 3s, the Beer Guzzlers somehow drafted 3 defenses that only combined for 3 points. None of their 4 TEs scored more than 6 points. That's a third of your roster with a terrible week 1. Walker and AJ Brown had bad weeks, too. This team is the obvious choice for a big bounce-back in week 2.
12. Jenn 125 PF 0 VPs 0-2
Remember when Jenn ghosted us for the draft? It turns out that looking like "Phillies Karen" wasn't bad enough. She also had Covid and was severely dehydrated on draft day. To make matters worse, Josh, who drafted for her at the last minute, had to walk away from the draft at the end and the site autodrafted about 18 bad running backs for her. Well, she didn't make any moves last week or this week so far, so maybe she likes her team or has passed away from Covid. Thoughts and prayers.
Anyway, good luck in week 2. There were no stat changes that impacted us this week, so these results should be final.
