NFL roundup: Eagles hold off Bills' surge to give Pats AFC East crown

Sun Dec 28 8:40pm ET
Field Level Media

Jake Elliott kicked two field goals and the Philadelphia Eagles held off a frantic Buffalo rally to squeak out a 13-12 win over the Bills on Sunday at Orchard Park, N.Y.

Buffalo scored 12 straight fourth-quarter points, but after Jalen Carter blocked the extra point on its first touchdown, Josh Allen's two-point conversion throw to Khalil Shakir was off the mark with five seconds remaining. The Eagles (11-5) recovered the ensuing onside kick in a contest played in heavy rain to snap the Bills' (11-5) streak of five straight AFC East titles.

Jalen Hurts misfired on all seven of his second-half pass attempts while finishing 13 of 27 for 110 yards and a touchdown pass to Dallas Goedert. Jihaad Campbell had a key first-quarter fumble recovery and Zack Baun had a critical fourth-and-goal stop for Philadelphia, which gained just 190 yards of offense.

Allen completed 23 of 35 passes for 262 yards and also rushed for both Buffalo touchdowns -- including one on fourth-and-goal in the closing seconds -- despite consistently hobbling because of his right foot injury.

Patriots 42, Jets 10

Drake Maye completed 19 of 21 passes for 256 yards and five touchdowns to lead New England past New York in East Rutherford, N.J. Coupled with Buffalo's 13-12 loss to Philadelphia later in the day, the Patriots clinched the AFC East crown for the first time since 2019.

Maye completed his first 11 attempts and tossed TD passes to tight end Austin Hooper (2 yards), running back Rhamondre Stevenson (22 yards), wide receiver Stefon Diggs (3 yards), tight end Hunter Henry (13 yards) and wide receiver Efton Chism (10 yards). It was Chism's first NFL touchdown.

Maye, who was pulled in the third quarter after his fifth TD pass, became the fourth Patriots quarterback to pass for at least five touchdowns in a game, joining Tom Brady, Steve Grogan and Babe Parilli. Stevenson also scored on a 1-yard run to help the Patriots (13-3) improve their road record to 8-0. Breece Hall scored the only touchdown for the Jets (3-13) on a 59-yard run.

Browns 13, Steelers 6

Host Cleveland made a defensive stand at its own 7-yard line and snapped a four-game losing streak to keep Pittsburgh from claiming the AFC North title.

The Steelers (9-7) went four-and-out to give the ball back to Cleveland at the two-minute warning. Andre Szmyt's 33-yard field goal soon made it 13-6 Browns. Aaron Rodgers (21 of 39 for 168 yards) then drove Pittsburgh to the seven, but three straight incompletions handed the Browns (4-12) their first win in the division in five tries.

Shedeur Sanders went 17 for 23 for 186 yards, one TD and two interceptions but put the only TD on the board in the first quarter. Meanwhile, the Steelers will play the Baltimore Ravens next week with the winner claiming the AFC North title.

Saints 34, Titans 26

Rookie Tyler Shough passed for a season-high 333 yards and two touchdowns and New Orleans won its fourth consecutive game, defeating Tennessee in Nashville, Tenn.

Shough completed 22 of 27 passes and one of his touchdowns went to Chris Olave, who finished with eight catches for 119 yards. Juwan Johnson added four catches for a career-high 95 yards as the Saints (6-10) improved to 5-3 with Shough as a starter.

Cam Ward had his fourth consecutive two-touchdown game, passing for 251 yards for the Titans (3-13). Titans Pro Bowl receiver/return specialist Chimere Dike set an NFL rookie record for all-purpose yards, surpassing the 2,317 yards that Tim Brown had with the Raiders in 1988.

Jaguars 23, Colts 17

Trevor Lawrence rushed for two touchdowns and threw for 263 yards to help visiting Jacksonville come away with a win over Indianapolis.

An interception by Jarrian Jones midway through the fourth quarter -- his second in as many weeks -- set up Cam Little for what became a game-winning 42-yard field goal with 6:58 left to help Jacksonville (12-4) win its seventh straight game and move to the brink of clinching the AFC South. They can do so in Week 18 with a win over Tennessee or a Houston loss to Indianapolis.

The Colts (8-8) sustained their sixth straight loss after they were eliminated from playoff contention with Houston's win Saturday. Philip Rivers completed 17 of 30 passes for 147 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Jonathan Taylor added 70 yards and a score on 21 carries.

Dolphins 20, Buccaneers 17

Miami rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers threw the first two touchdown passes of his career and the defense forced three turnovers to lead the team to a 20-17 victory over Tampa Bay on Sunday afternoon at Miami Gardens, Fla.

Ewers completed 14 of 22 passes for 172 yards and no interceptions and finished with a 118.0 passer rating in his second career start after replacing Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins' (7-9) defense forced a pair of fourth-quarter turnovers to narrowly protect a 10-point fourth-quarter lead.

Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 33 of 44 passes for 346 yards and two touchdowns, but threw a pair of costly interceptions and lost a fumble. Tampa Bay (7-9) lost its fourth game in a row but was not eliminated since Seattle beat Carolina on Sunday. The Buccaneers will have one final chance to make the playoffs if they can beat Carolina at home next week and thereby clinch the NFC South.

Bengals 37, Cardinals 14

Ja'Marr Chase made NFL history and broke a seven-game touchdown drought to lead host Cincinnati to a second straight blowout win, beating Arizona.

Chase finished with seven catches for 60 yards and two touchdowns, giving him seven touchdowns for the season. In the process, Chase became the first receiver in NFL history with at least 80 catches, 1,000 yards and seven touchdown receptions in each of his first five seasons. Chase Brown ran for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Joe Burrow completed 24 of 31 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns for the Bengals (6-10).

Jacoby Brissett completed 21 of 37 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns for the Cardinals (3-13), who dropped their eighth straight game. Arizona tight end Trey McBride finished with 10 catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. He now has 119 catches, the most by a tight end in a single season in NFL history and became the first tight end in NFL history with at least 110 catches in multiple seasons.

Seahawks 27, Panthers 10

Zach Charbonnet rushed for a season-high 110 yards and two touchdowns and the Seattle defense was dominant against Carolina in Charlotte, N.C.

The NFC West-leading Seahawks (13-3), who limited the Panthers to 139 yards of total offense, won their sixth consecutive game and improved to 7-1 on the road. Sam Darnold completed 18 of 27 passes for 147 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Jaxon Smith-Njigba had nine catches for 72 yards.

Bryce Young completed 14 of 24 passes for only 54 yards with one interception for Carolina (8-8), which leads the NFC South but will need to win at Tampa Bay in order to end its seven-year playoff drought. Rico Dowdle rushed for 59 yards on 12 carries.

Giants 34, Raiders 10

Jaxson Dart passed for 207 yards and ran for two touchdowns as New York earned a victory over host Las Vegas in a meeting of teams with the two worst records in the NFL.

Devin Singletary ran for a first-quarter touchdown and Dart added rushing TDs in the second and fourth quarters as the Giants (3-13) won the first game between teams with dueling nine-game losing streaks. Deonte Banks had a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Geno Smith threw for 176 yards and a touchdown for the Raiders (2-14) before he departed with an ankle injury early in the fourth quarter. Smith completed 20 of 28 passes with one touchdown and two interceptions as Las Vegas gained the inside track for the No. 1 draft pick in 2026.

Player Notes
Wan'Dale Robinson Dec 28 8:10pm CT
Wan'Dale Robinson

New York Giants wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson played a big role in his team's 34-10 Week 17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, recording 11 receptions for 113 yards on 14 targets. The 24-year-old continues to be a high-volume target earner, as he's recorded double-digit targets seven times in 2025. Across 16 games overall, Robinson has hauled in 92 receptions for 1,015 yards and four touchdowns on 140 targets. If Robinson records two catches in Week 18, he will set career single-season highs in targets, receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. He's also on pace to average over 11 yards per reception after posting just 7.5 yards per reception in 2024. Robinson remains a viable fantasy WR2 in PPR formats heading into his Week 18 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

Josh Allen Dec 28 8:00pm CT
Josh Allen

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (foot) told Dan Fetes of 13WHAM that he wasn't bothered by his foot injury at all during the second half of Sunday's Week 17 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. Specifically, when asked how much his foot impacted him, Allen said, "Zero." However, the star quarterback was seen exiting the X-ray room with a limp after the loss, according to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic. He added that the quarterback's X-rays came back negative. It's unclear whether Allen downplayed the injury in his postgame comments or whether the additional imaging was merely conducted out of an abundance of caution. The 29-year-old will likely do everything in his power to play in Week 18 against the New York Jets. With that being said, Buffalo has guaranteed that it will finish somewhere between the No. 5 and the No. 7 seed in the AFC, guaranteeing the Bills don't get a first-round home game. With this in mind -- and a relatively softer matchup against the Jets on tap-- we wouldn't be surprised to see Allen only play a portion of next week's game if the Bills take a substantial early lead. In other words, he should get a chance to lock up the No. 5 seed but might not play any more snaps than necessary. Fantasy managers should still view Allen as a high-end QB1 as he takes on the Jets, who just allowed Drake Maye to throw for five touchdowns in fewer than three quarters. We'll likely get more updates on Allen's status in the days leading up to Week 18.

Harold Fannin Jr. Dec 28 7:50pm CT
Harold Fannin Jr.

Cleveland Browns rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr. (groin) aggravated a pre-existing injury during Sunday's Week 17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He exited mid-game and later told Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal that he will undergo additional testing on Monday. The results of those medical tests should determine Fannin's exact diagnosis and whether he'll be able to play in next weekend's regular-season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals. While it's a relatively meaningless game for both eliminated teams, Fannin noted that he played through the injury to start in Week 17, so it's fair to speculate that he might try to do the same in Week 18. His availability this Sunday, albeit short-lived, was useful for the Browns in their quest to take down Pittsburgh. Fannin maintained a larger role with David Njoku (knee) still sidelined, catching two passes for 30 yards and a touchdown. If active in Week 18, he'll rank as a mid-range TE1 with high-end upside.

Tre Tucker Dec 28 7:40pm CT
Tre Tucker

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Tre Tucker was primed to emerge as the Raiders' lead pass catcher in Week 17, but was held to five receptions for 49 yards off his six targets in a 34-10 loss to the New York Giants. Tight end Brock Bowers (knee) was placed on IR following Week 16, and rookie wide receiver Jack Bech (back) was ruled out Sunday afternoon, which should have opened the path for more opportunities for Tucker. However, quarterback Geno Smith (ankle) was under pressure all afternoon, and the passing attack primarily went through tight end Michael Mayer. Still, Tucker earned the most targets out of the Raiders' wide receiver room and is solidly the team's WR1. Tucker has a bottom-10 matchup ahead of him in Week 18 against AFC West rivals the Kansas City Chiefs. The third-year wide-out is firmly in WR3/Flex territory as the 2025 season draws to a close.

From RotoBaller

Tyler Lockett Dec 28 7:40pm CT
Tyler Lockett

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Tyler Lockett tallied two receptions and nine yards off his three targets during Sunday's 34-10 loss to the New York Giants in Week 17. The veteran wide receiver's fantasy day was saved by his reception in the back of the end zone on a quarterback Geno Smith (ankle) scramble late in the third quarter. Lockett was competing for targets with the fourth-round rookie wide receiver Dont'e Thornton Jr., but the Raiders' offense struggled to sustain drives or keep a clean pocket against the Giants' defense. If rookie wide receiver Jack Bech (back), who was a late addition to the Week 17 injury report and was ruled out before kickoff on Sunday, Lockett should resume his part-time WR3 role in Week 18 against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs' defense is a bottom-10 matchup for opposing wide receivers, keeping Lockett in deep-league WR4/Flex territory heading into the final game of the 2025 season.

Geno Smith Dec 28 7:40pm CT
Geno Smith

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith (ankle) was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain following Sunday's Week 17 loss against the New York Giants, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Smith suffered the injury during the fourth quarter while attempting to make a play on a Giants interception return. The veteran quarterback has found himself involved in several of those plays this year, as he leads the entire NFL with 17 interceptions. High-ankle sprains are typically multiple-week injuries, and even if Smith had a chance to play next week, it's tough to imagine the eliminated Raiders would rush him back. Kenny Pickett should start at quarterback in Vegas' regular-season finale against the Kansas City Chiefs. If the Raiders lose, they would clinch the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

From RotoBaller

Ashton Jeanty Dec 28 7:30pm CT
Ashton Jeanty

Las Vegas Raiders rookie running back Ashton Jeanty was held to single-digit fantasy points in Sunday's 34-10 loss to the New York Giants in Week 17. Jeanty has been held to 10 or fewer fantasy points in three of his last four games, disappointing fantasy managers in the playoffs. Despite the great matchup, he had a relatively inefficient day, turning his 16 rush attempts into 60 yards and corralling both of his targets for just 13 yards. The rookie ball carrier was the Raiders' workhorse back, with Raheem Mostert (ankle, knee) ruled inactive before gametime, but he did cede some third-down snaps to running back Zamir White in the second half. The Las Vegas Raiders will host the reeling Kansas City Chiefs in Week 18, whose defense is a top-10 matchup for opposing running backs. Jeanty still has big play potential and, as the Raiders' bell cow back, should continue to see starting lineups in Week 18.

Baker Mayfield Dec 28 7:30pm CT
Baker Mayfield

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 33 of his 44 pass attempts for 346 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions during Sunday's Week 17 loss against the Miami Dolphins. He also rushed for 16 yards, took three sacks, and lost a fumble. The Buccaneers had an opportunity to gain ground on the Panthers in the NFC South, but instead, they were upset by the Dolphins in Miami. Mayfield racked up the passing yards and touchdowns to salvage his fantasy performance, but the three turnovers were a main reason why Tampa Bay lost. He has six turnovers over his last three games and will look to turn things around with the NFC South title on the line in Week 18. Mayfield ranks as a mid-to-high QB2 as he prepares to face the Carolina Panthers.

From RotoBaller

Michael Wilson Dec 28 7:30pm CT
Michael Wilson

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson caught five of his 10 targets for 89 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's Week 17 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals. He capitalized on a larger volume share with teammate Marvin Harrison Jr. (heel) playing just one-third of the offensive snaps before exiting the game entirely. Operating as the top wide receiver in Arizona's offense, Wilson extended his touchdown streak to four games. He has posted at least 13 full-PPR fantasy points in each of those four weeks, and he ranks as the overall WR3 during that span. Harrison's return is far from guaranteed in Week 18, but even if the former first-round pick does face the Los Angeles Rams, Wilson should still serve as Arizona's No. 1 wide receiver and one of Jacoby Brissett's favorite targets. He ranks as a top-12 fantasy receiver heading into Week 18.

From RotoBaller

Trey McBride Dec 28 7:20pm CT
Trey McBride

Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride caught 10 of his 13 targets for 76 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's Week 17 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. McBride continues to be the top-scoring tight end in fantasy football this season, and he widened the gap between himself and the rest of the tight end position on Sunday afternoon. Along the way, he also set a new NFL record for most catches by a tight end in a single season. It's safe to say that McBride is the best and most dependable tight end in the league. He should continue to be deployed as a high-end TE1 in a pass-heavy game approach against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 18. He also figures to be the first tight end off the board (and a potential first-round pick) in 2026 fantasy football drafts.

From RotoBaller

Josh Allen Dec 28 7:10pm CT
Josh Allen

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen completed 23 of his 35 pass attempts for 262 yards, zero passing touchdowns, and zero turnovers during Sunday's Week 17 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. He also registered seven rushing attempts, 27 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns. Allen hadn't led a scoring drive until the fourth quarter, when he called his own number and ran into the end zone on two different occasions. As a result, he turned around his fantasy performance and now ranks as the fifth-highest-scoring fantasy quarterback with four Week 17 games remaining. Despite the big game, he actually fell to the No. 2 spot in the 2025 quarterback fantasy points leaderboard after Drake Maye's five-touchdown performance. However, the gap between Allen and Maye is small, and the former could reclaim his top spot next week against the New York Jets. The 29-year-old signal-caller should continue to be started in all fantasy leagues.

From RotoBaller

Joe Burrow Dec 28 6:50pm CT
Joe Burrow

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow completed 24 of his 31 pass attempts for 305 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and zero interceptions during Sunday's Week 17 win over the Arizona Cardinals. He also rushed for two yards and took three sacks. Burrow played turnover-free football and earned the win for the second week in a row. During that two-game span, he has 614 passing yards and six touchdowns. Outside of an ugly loss to the Ravens, the former No. 1 pick has been playing at an elite level despite Cincinnati being eliminated from playoff contention. It doesn't seem like the Bengals will rest any key starters against the Browns next Sunday, so Burrow should continue to be viewed as a strong fantasy QB1 with all of his top weapons at his disposal.

From RotoBaller

Jaxson Dart Dec 28 6:50pm CT
Jaxson Dart

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart completed 22 of his 30 pass attempts for 207 passing yards during Sunday's Week 17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. He also rushed for 48 yards, took two sacks, and didn't turn over the football. The rookie didn't score any touchdowns through the air, but he did add two rushing touchdowns. Dart continues to showcase an impressive tendency to scamper into the end zone; he has 13 passing touchdowns and nine rushing touchdowns through 11 games. The Ole Miss product's willingness to put his body on the line for big plays will always cause managers to hold their breath, but you can't argue with the results so far. Dart has been one of the best rushing quarterbacks in the NFL this year, and he could make a late push for Rookie of the Year while scoring touchdowns and limiting turnovers. It doesn't look like New York will rest any key starters in Week 18, so Dart should be a low-end fantasy QB1 with all of the Giants' top weapons at his disposal.

From RotoBaller

Geno Smith Dec 28 6:30pm CT
Geno Smith

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith (ankle) exited during the fourth quarter of Sunday's Week 17 loss against the New York Giants. He was initially listed as questionable before being downgraded to out. The veteran signal-caller finished this game with a 71.4% completion rate, 176 passing yards, one passing touchdown, and two interceptions. He also took three sacks. Smith entered this game with the most interceptions in the NFL, and his total only grew prior to his early exit. He has been one of the lowest-scoring fantasy quarterbacks in 2025, keeping him on the waiver wire in most leagues. Smith, who injured himself while tackling on a Giants interception return, wouldn't be a reliable fantasy option against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 18, even if he's cleared to play.

Ricky Pearsall Dec 28 6:20pm CT
Ricky Pearsall

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (knee, ankle) is officially active for Sunday Night Football against the Chicago Bears in Week 17. He had been listed as questionable but was trending in the right direction ahead of kickoff. Having Pearsall available is key for the 49ers, who will be without George Kittle (ankle) on Sunday night. While Kittle is irreplaceable, Pearsall's return from a one-game absence fills a significant void in the passing game. He should handle a heavy dose of targets alongside Jauan Jennings and Jake Tonges. As it stands, Pearsall ranks as a mid-range WR3/flex against a Bears defense allowing the fifth-most fantasy points to wide receivers in 2025.

From RotoBaller

D.J. Moore Dec 28 6:20pm CT
D.J. Moore

Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore (illness) is officially active for Sunday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17. He had been listed as questionable after the Bears added him to the injury report on Sunday morning. There had been some concern about his status, but in the end, he was able to shake the illness and feels healthy enough to play. Moore has impressed lately with nine catches, 166 yards, and three touchdowns over his last two games. He played a major role in last week's win over the Packers, highlighted by a big game-winning touchdown catch in overtime. This week, Moore and Luther Burden III will operate as some of Caleb Williams' top targets with Rome Odunze (foot) and Olamide Zaccheaus (illness) ruled out. The 28-year-old is a solid WR2 option in fantasy football.

From RotoBaller

Olamide Zaccheaus Dec 28 6:20pm CT
Olamide Zaccheaus

Chicago Bears wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus (illness) is inactive for Sunday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17. He had been listed as questionable after the Bears added him to the injury report on Sunday morning. The late addition created plenty of concern about his status, and in the end, he won't be able to suit up. This is a significant loss for the Bears, who had already ruled out wide receiver Rome Odunze. With Zaccheaus and Odunze sidelined, Caleb Williams should target DJ Moore and Luther Burden III more often. Moore is a strong WR2, while Burden can be deployed as a solid WR3/flex. Meanwhile, Zaccheaus is droppable in most redraft leagues, since he'll likely be the Bears' No. 4 wide receiver upon his return.

Derrick Henry Dec 28 6:13pm CT
Derrick Henry

Dynasty | Ravens running back Derrick Henry had 216 rushing yards and four touchdowns in a win against Green Bay. Dynasty Analysis: And with that, anyone with Henry in their fantasy lineup during championship week was immediately rewarded. After starting out slowly, the King is now up to 1,469 rushing yards and has matched his career high with 16 scores. With Baltimore still in the playoff mix, expect him to have a great chance to set a new mark next week. His dynasty value can't really go up based on his age but it's clear he just isn't slowing down yet, despite being 31.

Malik Willis Dec 28 6:13pm CT
Malik Willis

Dynasty | Packers quarterback Malik Willis completed 18-of-21 passes for 288 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions, adding 60 rushing yards and two more scores in a loss to the Ravens. Dynasty Analysis: The Packers lost the game because they couldn't tackle Derrick Henry, not because Willis played poorly. In fact, Willis looked the part of a starting quarterback in the NFL and has likely earned some consideration by teams to be signed and compete for a starting job this off-season. As such, he makes for a solid addition to the back end of a dynasty roster if he's still available.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Josh Jacobs Dec 28 6:13pm CT
Josh Jacobs

Dynasty | Packers running back Josh Jacobs had just three rushing yards, one catch and no receiving yards in a loss to the Ravens. Dynasty Analysis: Seriously? Dynasty managers have to be fuming as Jacobs was healthy enough to suit up but clearly wasn't used in his norma role. The Packers were playing from behind most of the game and that didn't help but this performance likely sunk a lot of teams in championship week. Jacobs will still be a RB1 going into the off-season but this one stung.
