49ers’ Mac Jones to start again as Brock Purdy, Ricky Pearsall ruled out vs. Falcons

Fri Oct 17 7:22pm ET
Field Level Media

The San Francisco 49ers will again turn to backup quarterback Mac Jones with starter Brock Purdy out for Sunday's matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, head coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday.

Purdy continues to recover from a lingering toe injury that he aggravated in Week 4. Jones, who has gone 2-2 as a starter this season, will make his fifth consecutive start after returning to full practice participation late in the week.

Meanwhile, Ricky Pearsall will miss his third straight game with a sprained knee.

The 49ers received better news elsewhere on offense, with tight end George Kittle cleared to return from a hamstring injury that had kept him sidelined since Week 1. Shanahan said Kittle will have "no pitch count" in his return.

"George has rehabbed really well, came back 100 percent, had a good week of practice," Shanahan said.

Despite a rash of injuries to key players, including season-enders for defensive stars Nick Bosa and Fred Warner, San Francisco enters Week 7 with a 4-2 record and tied for first in the NFC West with the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks.

Shanahan said the team hopes to have Purdy back "soon" after he practiced each day this week.

"He was able to get out there, throw more," Shanahan said of Purdy on Friday. "Thought it was definitely a step further ahead than it was last week, so going in the right direction."

Player Notes
Chris Godwin Oct 18 10:50am CT
Chris Godwin

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin (fibula) was not spotted at Saturday's practice ahead of the team's Monday night matchup against the Detroit Lions. Godwin suffered a fibula fracture in 2024 that required two surgeries, and the lingering effects of that injury continue to impact him. Godwin appears to be trending in the wrong direction for Week 7, and with the Buccaneers' bye week coming in Week 9, it would make sense for the team to give the veteran extra time to recover for the later part of the season. If Godwin is ruled out, expect Sterling Shepard, Tez Johnson, and Kameron Johnson to see expanded roles in Tampa Bay's passing game during their primetime clash with Detroit.

Kyren Williams Oct 18 10:50am CT
Kyren Williams

Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams has scored a touchdown in back-to-back games and will look to extend his streak against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 7. The 25-year-old has a firm grasp on the lead-back role in Los Angeles, handling 39 touches over the last two games compared to Blake Corum's six. Williams has been efficient on the ground with 4.4 yards per carry and has also taken on a bigger receiving role with 10 catches and two receiving touchdowns over his last two games. The Jaguars rank near the middle of the league in terms of fantasy points allowed to running backs, so we don't expect Williams to run into any challenges that he can't handle. He remains a high-end RB2 for Week 7.

Blake Corum Oct 18 10:50am CT
Blake Corum

Los Angeles Rams running back Blake Corum continues to operate in a clear depth role behind Kyren Williams, keeping him off the fantasy radar ahead of Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Corum has impressed with 5.38 yards per carry this year, but opportunities have been hard to come by. He has just six carries and zero receptions over his last two games, and he hasn't played more than 30 percent of the offensive snaps in a single game this season. The 24-year-old is an intriguing handcuff who would become an RB2 if Williams missed time. However, Williams is currently healthy and has full control of the backfield. As a result, Corum can be left on waivers (or benched in deeper leagues) ahead of Week 7.

Carson Wentz Oct 18 10:50am CT
Carson Wentz

The Minnesota Vikings plan to give Carson Wentz at least one more start Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, but managers should not risk starting Wentz, even in two-quarterback formats. With starter J.J. McCarthy (ankle) questionable and not yet ready to return from injury, the veteran will face the team with which he had his greatest success in the NFL. The Vikings have struggled often on offense this season, ranking 32nd in passing attempts, 29th in passing yards, and 31st in sack percentage allowed, numbers surely influenced by the team's injury struggles on the offensive line. Wentz was not listed on the final injury report himself, but did hurt his non-throwing shoulder in Week 5 and briefly left the game. Though the Eagles are only middle of the pack against fantasy quarterbacks, managers should look for a stronger matchup elsewhere.

Bucky Irving Oct 18 10:50am CT
Bucky Irving

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving (foot/shoulder) was not seen at Saturday's practice, putting him on track to miss his third straight game. Irving has been sidelined for the past two weeks with foot and shoulder injuries and is likely to miss another game this week. In his absence, the Buccaneers have leaned heavily on Rachaad White, who has played 81% of the snaps over the past two games. With the team's bye week approaching in Week 9, it would make sense for Tampa Bay to rest the young running back and ensure he's fully healthy for the second half of the season. Expect White and Sean Tucker to handle the backfield duties once again in Monday night's matchup against the Detroit Lions.

Davante Adams Oct 18 10:50am CT
Davante Adams

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams will operate as the team's primary option in the passing game during Sunday's Week 7 contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Teammate Puka Nacua (ankle) has been ruled out, which has vaulted Adams to the top of the depth chart. Adams should have no trouble handling the responsibilities of a No. 1 receiver, as he occupied that role with great success in Green Bay, Las Vegas, and New York. The increase in opportunities this week could actually be much-needed for Adams, as he previously has struggled to develop a very consistent rapport with Matthew Stafford. The receiver has caught just 47.3 percent of the passes Stafford has thrown his way, but that ratio could increase with Adams handling WR1 duties. In addition to being the WR1 in Los Angeles, Adams should sneak into the low-end WR1 tier for fantasy football. He's a must-start receiver against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have allowed the eighth-most fantasy points to wide receivers in 2025.

Greg Dortch Oct 18 10:40am CT
Greg Dortch

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Greg Dortch posted his best game of the season in Week 6 due to a couple of injuries to the receiver corps. He finished as the WR32 in half-PPR formats with three receptions for nine yards and a touchdown on three targets from Jacoby Brissett. Marvin Harrison Jr. is set to return after being cleared from concussion protocol, but Zay Jones (knee) received a questionable tag. If Jones doesn't play, Dortch holds some value against the Green Bay Packers. Especially if Brissett is under center and the Cardinals dial up a similar game plan as last week. Since his value depends on a lot of moving parts, however, Dortch is quite the dart-throw option that is only worth playing in dire situations.

Emeka Egbuka Oct 18 10:40am CT
Emeka Egbuka

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka (hamstring) was spotted practicing on Saturday ahead of Monday night's matchup with the Detroit Lions. After missing both Thursday and Friday's sessions, his surprise return to the field is an encouraging sign for his future availability. However, with the final injury report still pending, fantasy managers should proceed with caution. Given the Monday night kickoff, it may be smart to start other options at wide receiver in your fantasy leagues. The team has been reckless with hamstring injuries in the past, most notably Mike Evans in 2024, when he reaggravated his injury and landed on injured reserve. Even if Egbuka is active, he'll likely be on a limited snap count, but there's a good chance the Buccaneers proceed with caution for their young superstar.

Trey McBride Oct 18 10:40am CT
Trey McBride

Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride posted season highs in fantasy points and position finish in Week 6 with Jacoby Brissett under center. His value particularly shines in PPR formats, especially after receiving 11 targets in that matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. In Week 7, he'll go up against the Green Bay Packers, who are ranked 30th against tight ends so far this season. They're giving up an average of 17.4 fantasy points per game to the position and have allowed a touchdown in three of their five games. McBride is already Kyler Murray's (questionable - foot) favorite target, and he produced a great game with Brissett, so he remains in the mix for the TE1 overall yet again.

Michael Wilson Oct 18 10:30am CT
Michael Wilson

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson has yet to crack the top 40 at his position through the first six weeks of the season. His Week 6 performance of four catches for 44 yards equated to his best finish of the year at WR41 in half-PPR formats. To make matters worse, his average finish is WR72. In Week 7, he'll take on the Green Bay Packers, who are middle of the pack against the passing game. They have allowed at least one touchdown to opposing receivers in all but one game, but Wilson has only one touchdown in his last nine games played, dating back to last season. With the uncertainty at quarterback as Kyler Murray (foot) is questionable again, fantasy managers can leave Wilson on the waiver wire until something drastic changes.

Mike Evans Oct 18 10:30am CT
Mike Evans

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans (hamstring) was spotted participating in practice on Saturday after taking a rest day on Friday. His return to the field strongly suggests that the future Hall of Famer will be active for Monday Night Football against the Detroit Lions. Through three games, Evans has caught 14 of 28 targets for 140 yards and a touchdown, ranking as the WR37 on a per-game basis. While Evans appears on track to return, receivers Emeka Egbuka (hamstring) and Chris Godwin (fibula) are both less likely to play on Monday Night. Assuming he's cleared to play, Evans profiles as a solid WR2 against a struggling Lions secondary that has allowed multiple big performances this season.

Chris Olave Oct 18 10:20am CT
Chris Olave

The New Orleans Saints are reportedly in contract negotiations with wide receiver Chris Olave, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini. Olave's name had occurred in recent trade rumors, but the team's pursuit of a long-term deal might slow down those talks for now. Through six games, Olave has caught 39 of 64 targets for 342 yards and a touchdown, ranking as the WR27 on a per-game basis. The fourth-year wideout has dealt with injuries (mostly concussions) over his three-year career but has shown he can be a dependable weapon in the Saints' passing attack. While there are potential landing spots that could boost his fantasy ceiling, it appears Olave is staying put in New Orleans for the foreseeable future.

Marvin Harrison Jr. Oct 18 10:20am CT
Marvin Harrison Jr.

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. cleared the NFL's concussion protocol just in time to practice Friday and be removed from the injury report. He was only able to play in 23% of the team's snaps in Week 6, which led to just the two targets, two catches, and 32 yards. Week 7 carries uncertainty yet again as Kyler Murray (foot) remains questionable, with Jacoby Brissett waiting for the call to go under center. Harrison and Murray still haven't fully clicked, so having Brissett under center may not necessarily be a bad thing. The Green Bay Packers have given up at least one receiving touchdown in all but one of their games, so Harrison could find some room to break free, but they're around the middle of the league in terms of defending the pass. Harrison is a solid flex play, but his ceiling is a bit limited right now.

Trey Hendrickson Oct 18 10:20am CT
Trey Hendrickson

Cincinnati Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson is unlikely to be traded ahead of this year's trade deadline, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini. Hendrickson ended his offseason holdout by signing a one-year deal before the season, allowing him to return to action. With the Bengals' sluggish start, Hendrickson's name had surfaced in trade speculation, but Russini's report indicates he'll remain in Cincinnati for the rest of the season. The reigning NFL sack leader has four sacks in five games this year, even while battling back and hip injuries over the past two weeks. Assuming he stays put, Hendrickson will look to help spark a turnaround for a Bengals defense that's struggled out of the gate.

Michael Carter Oct 18 10:10am CT
Michael Carter

Arizona Cardinals running back Michael Carter is set to receive more opportunities after a third member of the backfield went down with an injury in Emari Demercado (ankle). During the Week 6 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts, Carter saw 44% of the snap share after getting 58% against the Tennessee Titans in Week 5. Against the Green Bay Packers in Week 7, Carter and Bam Knight will split the backfield work, but Carter is likely to see some more opportunities in the passing game. He received five targets in each of the last two games and turned them into seven receptions for 52 yards. The Packers are ranked fifth against opposing running backs, however, and have given up just two touchdowns on the ground this season. Carter does hold some low-end flex value in deeper leagues, but he'll be hard to trust since the Cardinals will likely go with the hot hand.

From RotoBaller

Kyler Murray Oct 18 9:50am CT
Kyler Murray

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (foot) has officially received a questionable status for their Week 7 matchup with the Green Bay Packers after a week of limited practices. Jacoby Brissett filled in admirably for Murray in Week 6 and even led the team to their most passing yards and touchdowns so far this season. Their Week 7 opponent, the Green Bay Packers, is currently ranked fifth in overall defensive numbers and 11th against the pass. So, if Murray does end up playing at less than 100% healthy, it doesn't seem like an ideal start for fantasy managers. The last time the two teams met last season, Murray led the offense to just 13 points in a lopsided 34-13 loss. With that being said, if he does play, he remains in the QB2 conversation.

From RotoBaller

Zonovan Knight Oct 18 9:40am CT
Zonovan Knight

Arizona Cardinals running back Bam Knight was dealing with a knee injury earlier in the week, but was a full participant in Thursday and Friday's practice, so he's good to go. In their Week 6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Knight saw a 51% snap share and finished as a high-end RB2 in half-PPR leagues. With Emari Demercado (ankle) ruled out for the Week 7 game against the Green Bay Packers, Knight is set to share the backfield with Michael Carter again. While he is a worthwhile waiver add if available, his fantasy output will likely be very volatile. The Cardinals seem to be going with the hot hand approach between the two backs, which gives Knight a low-end flex value in deeper leagues.

From RotoBaller

Jacoby Brissett Oct 18 9:30am CT
Jacoby Brissett

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett may be in line for another spot start while Kyler Murray (foot) remains questionable ahead of their Week 7 matchup with the Green Bay Packers. The fact that the Cardinals enter their bye week after this game could encourage them to be more cautious with Murray. With that being said, Brissett did lead the Cardinals to their best output through the air in terms of both passing yards and touchdowns. The Packers are the fifth-ranked defense overall, but have given up at least 200 yards and two scores to quarterbacks in their last two games. Murray still has a chance to play in this contest, but if Brissett is under center, fantasy managers in deeper leagues can look to Brissett to provide some value in tough situations.

Ray-Ray McCloud Oct 18 9:03am CT
Ray-Ray McCloud

Atlanta Falcons WR Ray-Ray McCloud (non-injury) was sent home and will not play in Week 7's game versus the San Francisco 49ers due to a private matter between the player and the club, according to head coach Raheem Morris.

Fantasy Spin: McCloud has just six receptions for 64 yards through four games this season and possesses minimal fantasy value, especially since he is no longer serving as the Falcons' primary kick return and punt return option.

Brandon Aubrey Oct 18 8:50am CT
Brandon Aubrey

Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey has been one of the best kickers this decade, and he'll look to build on his success in a divisional Week 7 marchup against the Washington Commanders. He is a perfect 12-for-12 on field goals and 18-for-19 on extra points, continuing to showcase his accuracy and extremely strong leg. This pair of skills has allowed him to rank as the No. 1 kicker in fantasy points so far, and he remains the consensus K1 heading into Week 7. A matchup against the Commanders isn't ideal, as they've allowed the seventh-fewest fantasy points to kickers in 2025. However, Aubrey has shown that he is matchup-proof and should be started in all leagues this weekend.
