Commanders star QB Jayden Daniels (knee) to start vs. Chargers

Fri Oct 3 7:33pm ET
Field Level Media

Commanders star quarterback Jayden Daniels will be back in the starting role after a two-game injury absence when Washington visits the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Daniels has been sidelined since sustaining a sprained left knee in Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers.

Washington coach Dan Quinn told reporters on Friday that Daniels would be the starter. The team also released the news later on social media.

Daniels was a full practice participant all week and will wear a brace on the knee on Sunday. He had badly wanted to return this week as he is from San Bernardino, located about 75 miles away from where the Chargers play in Inglewood.

Daniels has passed for 433 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 85 yards this season.

Last season, Daniels was a force by completing 69 percent of his passes for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed for 891 yards and six touchdowns, securing 55 first downs on 148 attempts while winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Marcus Mariota started the past two games for the Commanders (2-2). He passed for 363 yards, three touchdowns and one interception and added 60 rushing yards and one score.

Washington will be without receivers Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) and Noah Brown (groin/knee). McLaurin is missing his second straight game and Brown will be sidelined for the third consecutive contest.

Commanders guard Sam Cosmi (knee) also was ruled out.

The Chargers will be without rookie tackle Joe Alt (ankle) and receiver Derius Davis (knee). Guard Mekhi Becton (concussion), and tight ends Will Dissly (knee) and Tucker Fisk (toe) are questionable.

Starts, Sits, Sleepers: Week 5

Player Notes
Isaiah Bond Oct 4 9:40am CT
Isaiah Bond

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Isaiah Bond had his best game as a pro in Week 4's loss to the Detroit Lions, catching three of six targets for 58 yards. Bond has a chance to continue to ascend in Week 5's matchup against the Minnesota Vikings in London. The Browns placed Cedric Tillman (hamstring) on injured reserve earlier in the week, which will open up a larger workload for Bond moving forward. The Vikings are allowing the fewest fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers this season, but Bond is worth a look in fantasy as a boom/bust flex option if you are being hit hard by the Week 5 byes.

Devon Achane Oct 4 9:40am CT
Devon Achane

Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane should be very busy in an extremely favorable matchup in Week 5, when his team rolls into Carolina. Achane is coming off a season-high 20 carries on Monday night against the Jets in Week 4, totaling a season-high 99 rushing yards and scoring his first rushing touchdown. His targets were down dramatically because the Dolphins played from ahead, but he could get more work as a receiver with Tyreek Hill (knee) done for the season. Coach Mike McDaniel knows that Achane is a key playmaker in the offense ans always is sure to get him his volume. The Panthers have been a good matchup for running backs, giving up three running back touchdowns in four weeks along with 110 rushing yards and 30.3 receiving yards per game to the position. Achane should continue to serve as the primary back in Miami, and even though he is sharing a little work with rookie Ollie Gordon II, he remains a great play in all formats. His big-play ability, consistent volume, and favorable matchup combine to place him at No. 5 in the RotoBaller RB rankings for this week.

David Njoku Oct 4 9:40am CT
David Njoku

Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku (knee) will take on the Minnesota Vikings in London in Week 5. Njoku practiced fully on Thursday and Friday after being limited on Wednesday and is listed without an injury designation heading into Sunday's contest. That being said, Njoku sets up as a low-end TE2 in Week 5. He continues to split tight-end looks with Harold Fannin Jr., which has cut into his fantasy value. The Browns will also trot out rookie Dillon Gabriel to make his NFL debut against Minnesota's exceptional pass defense, so expect the offense to skew run-heavy. Njoku is fine to utilize in fantasy, but he's not a must-start this weekend.

Kayshon Boutte Oct 4 9:40am CT
Kayshon Boutte

New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte desperately needs to bounce back in order to salvage his fantasy value on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. Boutte caught six passes for 103 yards in Week 1 and then added a touchdown the next week, raising plenty of speculation that he was ready to take on a massive role and could be a strong WR3 in fantasy football. However, he has just four catches over his last three games, looking relatively uninvolved despite a snap share over 70 percent. Time could be ticking for Boutte to get back on track, and it probably won't happen Sunday against the Bills. Buffalo has allowed the sixth-fewest receiving yards and 10th-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers in 2025, as well as the 14th-fewest fantasy points to perimeter receivers like Boutte. He can be benched in all leagues and dropped in leagues with 12 or fewer people.

Ollie Gordon II Oct 4 9:40am CT
Ollie Gordon II

Miami Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon II continues to serve as the team's primary backup for De'Von Achane and a change-of-pace option with a specialty in short-yardage situations. In Week 4, he played 26% of snaps on Monday Night Football against the Jets, taking six carries for 10 rushing yards. He played 25% of snaps in Week 3 as well and seems to be settling into a 75-25 split with Achane. Gordon has the potential to return good value in a favorable matchup against the Panthers, but his usability in a flex spot remains very touchdown dependent. He'll probably get a handful of carries, but he'll need to get into the end zone to really be a strong option. Coming into his matchup in Carolina, he is the RB42 in RotoBaller's rankings for the week, leaving him best suited for the bench in most formats.

Harold Fannin Jr. Oct 4 9:40am CT
Harold Fannin Jr.

Cleveland Browns tight end Harold Fannin Jr. will look to continue his strong start to the season in a Week 5 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings in London. Fannin has been one of the few bright spots on the Cleveland offense this season, catching 17 passes for 160 yards through four games. The Vikings have been tough against tight ends this season, allowing just the 24th-most fantasy points per game to the position thus far. That being said, Fannin should continue to be a focal point of the Cleveland offense, especially with rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel making his NFL debut. Treat Fannin as a high-end TE2 in fantasy this weekend.

Mack Hollins Oct 4 9:40am CT
Mack Hollins

New England Patriots wide receiver Mack Hollins already has two touchdowns through four games and will look to build on that total during Sunday's Week 5 contest against his old team, the Buffalo Bills. Hollins has just seven catches for 42 yards this year, playing over 50 percent of the snaps in three of his four games. However, he has still managed to cross the goal line twice, building on a strong 2024 campaign with the Bills that saw him lead the team with five touchdown grabs. While Hollins would have some low-end standalone value by scoring a touchdown, that's impossible to predict or guarantee this week, especially against a Bills defense allowing the 10th-fewest fantasy points to receivers. Hollins, 32, has WR3/flex upside, but it's far more likely that he finishes Week 5 off the fantasy radar.

Jerry Jeudy Oct 4 9:30am CT
Jerry Jeudy

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy will take on the Minnesota Vikings in London in Week 5. Jeudy has been quiet to start the season, catching 13 passes for 182 scoreless yards through four games. He is unlikely to break out against a Vikings defense that is allowing the fewest fantasy points per game to opposing wideouts this season, especially with quarterback Dillon Gabriel making his NFL debut. Jeudy is best treated as a WR4 heading into Week 5, although the absence of Cedric Tillman (hamstring) might push a bit more work onto Jeudy's plate.

TreVeyon Henderson Oct 4 9:30am CT
TreVeyon Henderson

New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson has not yet emerged as the team's lead back, and therefore, he's tough to trust as a fantasy starter heading into Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills. Henderson is the future lead back in New England, but through the first four games of his career, the backfield has belonged to Rhamondre Stevenson. During that span, Henderson has a modest 36.6 percent snap share, 97 rushing yards, 87 receiving yards, and one touchdown. He's averaging just 3.7 yards per carry but still works his way onto the field thanks to his draft capital, his pass-blocking skills, and Stevenson's fumbling issues. With that said, Stevenson projects as the lead running back once again in Week 5, leaving Henderson in the backup role and therefore largely dependent on finding the end zone. The Bills have allowed the ninth-most rushing yards, fourth-most rushing touchdowns, and 13th-most fantasy points to opposing running backs this season, leaving Henderson as a low-end RB3/flex who can be benched in leagues with 10 or fewer teams.

Stefon Diggs Oct 4 9:30am CT
Stefon Diggs

New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is back under consideration for a starting lineup spot in fantasy football ahead of his Week 5 clash with the Buffalo Bills. After an underwhelming start to the season, Diggs exploded with six catches and 101 yards against the Panthers last week. The matchup gets a little tougher this week, as the Bills have allowed the sixth-fewest receiving yards and 10th-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers in 2025. Nevertheless, the veteran receiver is coming off a big game and has earned a commitment from quarterback Drake Maye, who vowed to throw more passes his way. Plus, we can't ignore the negative game script and revenge game narrative this weekend. Diggs is a worthwhile WR3/flex option.

Dylan Sampson Oct 4 9:20am CT
Dylan Sampson

Cleveland Browns running back Dylan Sampson has seen his role shrink since a solid debut in Week 1. The rookie will now head to London to take on the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5. In theory, Sampson draws a decent matchup against a Minnesota defense that is allowing the 14th-most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs, but Cleveland has been giving almost all of the running-back work to Quinshon Judkins over the past two games, which has crushed the fantasy value of Sampson and Jerome Ford. Sampson is hard to trust in fantasy until the Browns show more of a commitment to getting him the ball, so managers should leave him on the bench in Week 5.

Tua Tagovailoa Oct 4 9:20am CT
Tua Tagovailoa

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will look to build on Monday night's first win of the season, as his team visits the Panthers in Carolina in Week 5. Tua completed 17-of-25 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns on Monday and now has exactly two touchdown passes in three straight weeks. Tua connected with tight end Darren Waller on both his touchdowns against the Jets, but he unfortunately lost top receiver Tyreek Hill (knee) to a brutal, season-ending injury. So far this season, Tagvailoa has not taken deep shots or racked up big yardage, but his touchdown passes and a generally favorable matchup keep him on the radar as a QB2 this week. He's No. 20 in RotoBaller's Week 5 rankings, so he's startable in two-quarterback leagues or very deep leagues if bye weeks are stretching you thin at the position.

From RotoBaller

Jack Bech Oct 4 9:10am CT
Jack Bech

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jack Bech remains off the fantasy radar heading into Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts. Bech has delivered minimal contributions on offense so far, catching just two passes for 33 yards on a mere 12 percent snap share. The TCU second-rounder still has immense upside, but his production so far leaves a lot to be desired. For the moment, he remains buried behind Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker, and Donte Thornton Jr. on the depth chart. As a result, Bech can be dropped in all redraft leagues and benched in most dynasty formats.

From RotoBaller

Jaylin Noel Oct 4 9:10am CT
Jaylin Noel

Houston Texans wide receiver Jaylin Noel has been somewhat of an afterthought this season and should continue to be avoided in fantasy football ahead of his Week 5 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. He has played just 23.6 percent of the offensive snaps so far, taking a backseat to Nico Collins, Christian Kirk, Jayden Higgins, and Xavier Hutchinson. As long as he's buried on the depth chart, Noel, a rookie, is not worth starting in fantasy football. That remains true this weekend despite a matchup against the Ravens, who have allowed the second-most touchdowns and fifth-most fantasy points to wide receivers in 2025. That should benefit Collins and Kirk far more than Noel.

From RotoBaller

Nico Collins Oct 4 9:10am CT
Nico Collins

Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins didn't find the end zone in last week's win over the Titans, but he still tied for the team lead with six targets, finishing with four catches for a team-high 79 receiving yards. He remains the go-to option for C.J. Stroud, and the duo will look to connect early and often while trying to get a second straight win this week against the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are banged up and have struggled on defense so far this season. They have given up the third-most fantasy points in the NFL to wide receivers, including three wide receiver scores last week against the Chiefs. The Texans' offense scuffled early this season, but Collins could help them continue to find their stride this week. He's the WR7 this week in RotoBaller's rankings and remains a strong top-line receiver to start every week in standard formats.

From RotoBaller

Dillon Gabriel Oct 4 9:00am CT
Dillon Gabriel

Cleveland Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel will make his NFL debut in a tough matchup against the Minnesota Vikings in London in Week 5. The Browns benched ineffective starter Joe Flacco earlier in the week and will turn to Gabriel, whom they drafted in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft. The rookie faces a tough task right off the bat against a Brian Flores-led Minnesota defense that tends to cause havoc for even the top quarterbacks in the league. The Browns are likely to limit Gabriel's pass attempts in his debut as a run-heavy offensive approach is likely. Treat Gabriel as a high-end QB3 in fantasy leagues for Week 5.

From RotoBaller

Woody Marks Oct 4 9:00am CT
Woody Marks

Houston Texans running back Woody Marks had a breakout week last week in his team's victory over the Titans, and he looks to further establish himself as a regular fantasy option to count on in this week's favorable matchup against the Ravens. Marks stepped into a larger role with his snapshare climbing to 56% in Week 4, and he delivered 69 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, while adding a second touchdown and 50 receiving yards on four catches out of the backfield as well. He has the potential to emerge as the clear No. 1 option in the backfield ahead of Nick Chubb, and his third-down abilities give him both a high ceiling and a high floor. Marks is in a great matchup against the Ravens this week, who have been the best matchup of the season for running backs. He is the No. 18 RB in RotoBaller's rankings and is a strong RB2 with RB1 upside this Sunday.

From RotoBaller

Quinshon Judkins Oct 4 9:00am CT
Quinshon Judkins

Cleveland Browns running back Quinshon Judkins will look to continue his red-hot start to the season with a Week 5 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings in London. Judkins has now rushed for at least 82 yards and a touchdown in two straight games as he has become the centerpiece of the Cleveland offense early in the season. His heavy-volume role should continue in Week 5 as the Vikings' defense has been much susceptible against the run than the pass through the first four games of the season. With quarterback Dillon Gabriel making his NFL debut, look for Judkins to get the ball early and often in Week 5. He sets up as a low-end RB1 in fantasy this weekend.

From RotoBaller

Dont'e Thornton Jr. Oct 4 8:50am CT
Dont'e Thornton Jr.

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Dont'e Thornton Jr. remains an unappealing fantasy option heading into Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts. The rookie has seen his snap share hover around 60 percent in three of four games this season, which usually doesn't quite translate to a level of volume that is productive for fantasy football. Indeed, he is the overall WR96 in PPR leagues with 14 targets, five catches, and 94 yards. He's third on the depth chart but is a significant step down from both Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker. Thornton has immense fantasy appeal, and we wouldn't be surprised to see him come on strong this year if his snap share jumps to at least 75 percent. For now, though, he should be benched or dropped in redraft leagues, even against a Colts team allowing the third-most fantasy points to wide receivers.

From RotoBaller

Nick Chubb Oct 4 8:50am CT
Nick Chubb

Houston Texans running back Nick Chubb played at least 50% of snaps in each of the first three weeks of the season, but he only played 42% of snaps in Week 4, as rookie running back Woody Marks seized the spotlight. Chubb still did have 13 carries and two catches, but only totaled 62 rushing and receiving yards. He may go from slightly more than half the work to slightly less than half the work this week as the Texans take on the Ravens, but he still has touchdown-dependent flex potential. He's the RB31 in RotoBaller's rankings, partly because the Ravens have been the most generous team in the NFL to running backs this season, so if he does get work, he could find space to operate.
