NFL, NFLPA launch review of Jaxson Dart concussion protocol

Fri Oct 10 1:02pm ET
Field Level Media

The NFL has initiated a review of the concussion protocol applied in the evaluation of New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart during Thursday's win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

The league announced Friday that the review will be conducted jointly with the NFL Players Association.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll ventured toward the blue injury tent while Dart was being evaluated for a concussion during the Giants' 34-17 victory over the Eagles. Dart was injured late in the third quarter after he fell into Philadelphia Azeez Ojulari while being sacked by fellow linebacker Patrick Johnson.

"I apologized directly to our team physician. I just wanted (Dart) out there if he was OK," Daboll told reporters after the game. "But I wanted the process, like we were getting ready to go for it on a potential fourth down, I would have burned a timeout if he could have come out there. I was asking how long was it going to take.

"Again, you want your guy out there. Not at risk of anything else."

Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo also poked his head into the blue injury tent.

"I was making sure that Jaxson wasn't hurting anybody in the injury tent," Skattebo joked.

"He's a dog. He wants to be back on the field. I knew going over there, I needed to calm down a little bit because I knew he was going to be on fire. I was trying to go over there before the drive was over, trying to tell him, ‘relax, relax we're good', but I had to wait and then when I was in there he was a little fired up, but we know we have to go through protocol and do all that stuff to make sure we can get back on the field. I went in there and kind of, 'We're good, man, we've got you,' and that's it."

For his part, Dart said he just wanted to get back on the field.

"It felt so long," Dart said. "Yeah, had a few guys popped in. I was just trying to get back there on the field. I understand they have protocol and whatnot. I was just trying to get out there fast."

Dart, who was sidelined for two plays, completed 17 of 25 passes for 195 yards and ran for 58 yards on 13 attempts.

The Giants (2-4) visit the Denver Broncos on Oct. 19.

Starts, Sits, Sleepers: Week 6

Player Notes
Ja'Tavion Sanders Oct 10 12:20pm CT
Ja'Tavion Sanders

The Carolina Panthers have listed tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders (ankle) as questionable to play in the Week 6 tilt against the visiting Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, according to The Athletic's Joe Person. Sanders was limited in Wednesday's practice, was able to practice in full on Thursday, and was then limited again on Friday. The 22-year-old is attempting to return from a high-ankle sprain that has kept him sidelined for the last two weeks. Sanders will test out his ankle during pre-game warmups on Sunday and is being treated as a game-time decision this weekend. Carolina could get both Sanders and receiver Jalen Coker (quadriceps) back, but the offense will be without running back Chuba Hubbard (calf) for a second straight week. Tommy Tremble has seen more pass-game looks at tight end with Sanders out the last couple of weeks, but if Sanders returns on Sunday, he should step right back into his TE1 in Carolina.

Chuba Hubbard Oct 10 12:10pm CT
Chuba Hubbard

The Carolina Panthers have ruled out running back Chuba Hubbard (calf) for their Week 6 contest this Sunday against the visiting Dallas Cowboys, according to Joe Person of The Athletic. It will be the second straight game that Hubbard is inactive due to a calf injury that he suffered in Week 4. Rico Dowdle burst onto the scene as Hubbard's replacement in the Week 5 win over the Miami Dolphins and was dominant with the ball in his hands, rushing for over 200 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting a repeat, but the increased volume as the clear-cut RB1 in the backfield for a second straight week pretty much makes Dowdle a must-start RB2 in fantasy lineups for the second straight week in a revenge game against his former team. Hubbard's next chance to return to action will be in Week 7 against the New York Jets.

Jalen Coker Oct 10 12:10pm CT
Jalen Coker

The Carolina Panthers have listed wide receiver Jalen Coker (quadriceps) as questionable to make his 2025 debut in Week 6 against the visiting Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, according to Joe Person of The Athletic. Despite practicing in full on Wednesday and Thursday, Coker will be a game-time decision on Sunday. The 23-year-old missed the first five weeks of the season due to a pretty serious quadriceps injury that he suffered at the end of August, but he's almost fully recovered. The Panthers could ease Coker back into the fold whenever he's officially activated from Injured Reserve, but given the lack of production behind rookie Tetairoa McMillan this year, the second-year pass-catcher could quickly earn plenty of playing time in Carolina. Coker won't be a realistic starting option in fantasy if he's active this weekend, but he's deserving of a waiver-wire pickup and stash now that his 2025 debut is just around the corner.

Mike Evans Oct 10 12:00pm CT
Mike Evans

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without wide receiver Mike Evans (hamstring) for a third straight game when they take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in Week 6, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. In addition to Evans being out, Tampa will also be without veteran pass-catcher Chris Godwin (leg). Evans will miss a third straight contest after straining his left hamstring in the Week 3 win over the New York Jets. The 32-year-old future Hall of Famer will need to return to practice next week if he is to have any chance at returning for a Monday night showdown against the Detroit Lions to close out Week 7 action. With both Evans and Godwin out this weekend, rookie first-rounder Emeka Egbuka, Sterling Shepard, and Tez Johnson should start in three-wide sets. Tight end Cade Otton will also have a higher ceiling. Shepard is worth looking at as a flex play in deeper leagues with more targets coming his way.

Christian Watson Oct 10 11:50am CT
Christian Watson

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (knee) will not play in Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals, but head coach Matt LaFleur said he's looked "pretty damn good" and that he's "excited for when that day comes," according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN. The Packers aren't going to rush Watson back after he tore his ACL in the Week 18 regular-season finale last year. The 26-year-old returned to practice for the first time this year on Wednesday and has been limited this week. Depending on how much Watson is able to do next week in practice, it's possible he'll officially be activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list to make his debut in Week 7 versus the Arizona Cardinals. Watson has had trouble staying healthy early in his NFL career and will be returning to a crowded receiving corps, but he has the potential to be an explosive deep threat for the Packers' offense when everything is right.

Bucky Irving Oct 10 11:50am CT
Bucky Irving

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving (foot, shoulder) will miss a second straight game this Sunday in Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. Irving is dealing with a left-foot sprain and a shoulder subluxation and will not be available for fantasy managers for the second straight week after missing all three practices this week. The 23-year-old's shoulder injury is the bigger concern, and it remains to be seen if he'll be able to make enough progress to have a chance to return in Week 7 when the team takes on the Detroit Lions on the road on Monday Night Football. Rachaad White wasn't all that efficient as a runner in last week's win over the Seattle Seahawks, but he saw an uptick in volume and found the end zone twice as the RB1 for the Bucs with Irving out. For the additional volume alone, White is a plug-and-play RB2 again this week in fantasy.

Kyler Murray Oct 10 11:40am CT
Kyler Murray

Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said that quarterback Kyler Murray (foot) will practice on Friday, according to Dani Sureck of AZCardinals.com. Murray injured his foot in the Week 5 loss to the Tennessee Titans in the second half, but he was able to return and finish out the game. The 28-year-old then missed the first two practices of the week on Wednesday and Thursday, putting his availability in doubt for this Sunday's game on the road against the Indianapolis Colts. Murray has a shot to play in Week 6 after returning to practice on Friday, but he could draw a questionable tag for Sunday's contest. Whether he plays this weekend will depend on how he looks the next couple days. Murray has been pretty mediocre through the first five weeks of the 2025 season, but Arizona's offense would lose a lot of explosiveness if backup Jacoby Brissett were forced to start against Indy.

From RotoBaller

Chris Godwin Oct 10 11:30am CT
Chris Godwin

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin (leg) is not expected to play in the Week 6 game against the San Francisco 49ers after he missed practice all week. Godwin's fibula injury is in a different area than the fracture he suffered when he dislocated his ankle last October. Right now, he will be week-to-week, depending on how he progresses, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. The Bucs have no plans to place Godwin on Injured Reserve at this time, according to sources. Godwin made his 2025 debut in Week 4, but now he's injured again and could miss multiple games. Mike Evans (hamstring) is going to miss another game, too, leaving rookie first-rounder Emeka Egbuka and Sterling Shepard as the team's top two wideouts. Tez Johnson should also have an elevated role, and tight end Cade Otton figures to draw more looks in the passing game.

Lamar Jackson Oct 10 11:20am CT
Lamar Jackson

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (hamstring) is not practicing on Friday and will miss his second straight game in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. Jackson has not practiced since tweaking his hamstring in the Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, and he'll miss his second straight game. The Ravens are on their bye in Week 7, so fantasy managers can only hope that the 28-year-old will be ready to go in Week 8 for a game against the Chicago Bears. Backup Cooper Rush will make a second straight start after looking bad in the blowout loss to the Houston Texans in Week 5. Baltimore will face another capable defense in the Rams, too, so fantasy managers must once again downgrade all of the Ravens' offensive skill players. Rush went 14-for-20 for 179 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions last Sunday.

Chuba Hubbard Oct 10 11:20am CT
Chuba Hubbard

Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard (calf) was tagged with yet another DNP for the team's final practice ahead of their Week 6 home meeting with the Dallas Cowboys. Hubbard hasn't practiced since Carolina's loss to New England in Week 4, due to a calf injury he sustained in the week leading up to the game. While it has yet to be confirmed, the Oklahoma State product is all but set to miss another contest, with backfield mate Rico Dowdle operating in his stead. Dowdle, who broke out for 234 total yards and a touchdown as the solo act last weekend, will get a smash spot in a revenge matchup against his former team. The Panthers noted that Hubbard wasn't a candidate for IR, but it's unclear precisely when he'll return to in-game action. Dowdle will be a solid RB2 in his absence.

From RotoBaller

Cooper Rush Oct 10 11:20am CT
Cooper Rush

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Cooper Rush is in line to make a second straight start this Sunday in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams with Lamar Jackson (hamstring) set to miss a second straight game this weekend, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Jackson has not practiced at all since injuring his hamstring in the Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Ravens have their bye coming up in Week 7, so the next time that Jackson will be able to play will be for a Week 8 contest against the Chicago Bears. Fantasy managers won't be waiting in line to use Rush as a QB2 in superflex leagues against a decent Rams defense after his performance in the blowout loss to the Houston Texans last Sunday. Rush threw for 179 yards on 20 pass attempts with no touchdowns and three interceptions. Mac Jones lit up L.A.'s defense last week, but we wouldn't bet on Rush doing the same this weekend.

Malik Washington Oct 10 11:10am CT
Malik Washington

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Malik Washington will again look to fill the void left by teammate Tyreek Hill when his team squares off with the visiting Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6. Washington hauled in 4-of-5 passes in Miami's loss to the Panthers last Sunday, gaining no yards. Despite him falling second amongst the team's wideouts regarding targets, teammate Nick Westbrook-Ikhine saw seven more snaps (39) running behind wide receiver Jaylen Waddle as the WR2. Westbrook-Ikhine also did not gain any yards, nor did he see a target. While he's the more imposing red zone option, Washington should continue to see manufactured looks close to the line of scrimmage, and is a marginally more explosive athlete. He's a low-end flex asset for now.

From RotoBaller

Emari Demercado Oct 10 10:50am CT
Emari Demercado

Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon reported on Thursday that running back Emari Demercado will not be punished for costing the team a touchdown in their loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 5. "It's the best thing for the team," said Gannon. Demercado egregiously lost a handle on the football last weekend as he pulled up early before crossing the goal line on a breakaway run. However, it doesn't appear that the head coach will dock him playing time, despite his visible frustration on the sideline following the blunder. In somewhat of a surprise, backfield mate Michael Carter seized the team's primary rushing role following Trey Benson's (knee) injury, and that should be the case again in Week 6. Demercado will operate on third downs and as a change-of-pace option.

Harold Fannin Jr. Oct 10 10:40am CT
Harold Fannin Jr.

Cleveland Browns tight end coach Christian Jones gave a glowing review when asked about rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr. "He attacks every play," said Jones. "The sky's the limit. The game will open itself up for him." A third-round pick of the team in April, Fannin Jr. has wasted no time impacting the field, essentially working as a 1B option to veteran teammate David Njoku right out of the gates. Njoku has the rookie bested in snaps by a fair margin (297-255). However, Fannin Jr. has notched just two fewer targets (28) and one more reception (21). For the time being, Njoku still owns this room. With that said, it only appears to be a matter of time before the 21-year-old overtakes him. That may not occur in 2025, but Fannin Jr. is a clear trade-for target in dynasty and keeper formats while his price tag is cheap.

From RotoBaller

Sterling Shepard Oct 10 10:20am CT
Sterling Shepard

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Sterling Shepard is slated to see an uptick in volume this weekend when his team takes on the San Francisco 49ers at home. The 32-year-old will operate as Tampa Bay's second wideout in Week 6 with the news that teammate Chris Godwin (fibula) will miss the contest with a fibula injury. Veteran Mike Evans is also trending toward another missed outing, so it will be Shepard and rookie Emeka Egbuka running in two-wide-receiver sets. Tampa Bay has been pretty balanced this season (54.2% pass rate), but a consolidated target share should keep Shepard in the conversation of a solid WR3 with upside for his meeting with the 49ers. First-year pro Tez Johnson will work as the team's third wideout.

Breece Hall Oct 10 10:10am CT
Breece Hall

Ahead of the team's Week 6 game in London against the Denver Broncos, New York Jets running back Breece Hall was asked about ongoing trade rumors and said, "I'm here, I wanna be here. I wanna be a New York Jet." Hall has been one of the lone bright spots for the 0-5 Jets so far this season, recording 501 yards from scrimmage on 83 total touches, although he's yet to find the end zone as either a rusher or receiver. Hall is currently playing on the final year of his rookie contract in New York and remains without an extension from the team. Hall's contract status and the Jets' need to build for the future have fueled speculation that he could be moved ahead of the NFL's early-November trade deadline. With running back Braelon Allen (knee) on Injured Reserve and uncertain to return this season, second-year back Isaiah Davis would likely take over the Jets' backfield if Hall were to get dealt. Davis has recorded 84 yards from scrimmage on just 12 total touches through five games this season.

Rachaad White Oct 10 10:00am CT
Rachaad White

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White filled in admirably for Bucs RB1 Bucky Irving (shoulder, foot) in Week 5. White logged 71 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on 18 total touches in a tough matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. With Irving likely set to miss a second straight game in Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers, White appears to be in line to once again shoulder a significant portion of Tampa Bay's backfield touches. Overall, White has recorded 213 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns on 49 total touches across five games this season. He profiles as a must-start, borderline fantasy RB1 in Week 6 against San Francisco.

Michael Carter Oct 10 9:50am CT
Michael Carter

Arizona Cardinals running back Michael Carter appears poised to shoulder a significant portion of the team's backfield workload for the foreseeable future. The Cardinals are without veteran James Conner (ankle) for the remainder of the season, and second-year back Trey Benson (knee) is on Injured Reserve due to a knee injury. In the team's first full game without both players in Week 5, Carter logged 73 scrimmage yards and a touchdown on 23 total touches. In contrast, fellow Arizona running backs Emari Demercado and Bam Knight combined for just eight touches. The Cardinals could be without starting quarterback Kyler Murray (foot) in Week 6 against the Indianapolis Colts, potentially leading to a run-heavy game plan for the team. Carter profiles as a low-end fantasy RB2 in Week 6.

Zach Ertz Oct 10 9:40am CT
Zach Ertz

Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz was held without a catch in Week 5 by the Los Angeles Chargers for the first time since November 2014. Despite the shocking Week 5 goose egg, Ertz has been a moderately productive player overall this season, with 14 catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns on 21 targets across five games. For what it's worth, Ertz had 13 combined targets in Washington's first two games and has just eight across the team's last three. However, Washington could remain without wide receiver Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) in Week 6, which might set Ertz up as the number two option in the passing game behind wideout Deebo Samuel Sr. In a favorable matchup against the Chicago Bears, Ertz profiles as a borderline starting option at the tight end position in Week 6.

From RotoBaller

Michael Badgley Oct 10 9:30am CT
Michael Badgley

With kicker Spencer Shrader (knee) set to miss the remainder of the 2025 season due to a torn ACL and MCL, the Indianapolis Colts signed veteran kicker Michael Badgley as a replacement earlier this week. Badgley has appeared in 64 career NFL games over six seasons for six different teams, and most recently played in four games for the Detroit Lions in 2023. He's connected on 82.4% of his career field goal attempts, although he's struggled from long distance. Badgley has made just five out of 13 attempts (38.5%) of his career attempts from 50-plus yards out. Before getting injured, Shrader was one of the most productive kickers in fantasy this season. Badgley profiles slightly less favorably but could be a low-end starting option in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals.
