San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy's season to date has largely been derailed by a toe injury.
He sustained the injury in Week 1, returned in Week 4 but has missed the last three games after dealing with a setback in his recovery.
Real details about a possible timeline for return to action for Purdy, who returned to practice in a limited capacity Oct. 15 and remained limited at Wednesday's practice, have been scarce.
In a radio interview Thursday with local station KNBR, 49ers GM John Lynch made it clear that Purdy is getting closer to a return.
"What I can tell everyone is that we're being (incredibly diligent)," Lynch said. "We've gotten so many opinions on this thing, and it's been pretty consistent. He's doing a really good job. We're taking the appropriate measures, and what I can tell you is he gets better each week, each day. I do think we're getting closer to him returning."
Still, no firm timetable has been established for Purdy's return.
"A hard timeline (is difficult to set) because it's kind of a feel thing," Lynch added. "And how he feels, that's still out there and TBD, but we're getting closer, we do know that. I think this week, in particular, last week, I think we made some progress. And so, that has Brock encouraged. It has everyone encouraged.
"We're trusting Brock, we're trusting the doctors. We'll make a good decision on it, and that's why it's taken some time."
Lynch also provided an update on receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who hasn't played this season after tearing his ACL and MCL last October. Like with Purdy, Lynch is optimistic about his potential to return as he is just past the one-year mark from when he sustained the injuries.
"Oh, yeah, there's hope he plays," Lynch said of Aiyuk. "There's, more importantly than hope, there's some evidence. He's making really good progress. He's been putting in the time, and I think that it's coming nearer as to when he's going to be out there."
San Francisco has kept winning in spite of being without Purdy, Aiyuk and a host of other important players on both sides of the ball.
The 49ers (5-2) are in a three-way tie atop the NFC West with the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams heading into Sunday's road game with the Houston Texans (2-4).
Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said that wide receiver Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) will practice on Thursday, per John Keim of ESPN. McLaurin looked like he had a real shot to return for the first time since Week 3 in last week's loss to the Dallas Cowboys, but the Commanders ultimately ruled on the side of caution and held him out. Quinn said earlier this week that the 30-year-old pass-catcher would practice in full this week, but it remains to be seen if that will be on Thursday. If McLaurin upgrades to a full-go at some point this week, his chances of suiting up on Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs will be much better. However, for fantasy purposes, McLaurin will be more of a risky WR4/flex if he returns with several factors working against him. For one, he could be on a snap count after his extended absence. Washington is also facing a tough matchup on the road in KC, and starting quarterback Jayden Daniels (hamstring) has already been ruled out.

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said on Thursday that the team ruled out quarterback Jayden Daniels (hamstring) quickly for the Week 8 game on Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs so that he could focus only on his rehab/treatment, according to ESPN's John Keim. "All of the week will be focused on rehab in hopes of [playing] the following week," Quinn said. The hamstring injury that knocked Daniels out of the Week 7 loss to the Dallas Cowboys early on Sunday is not a long-term one, so the team is hoping he'll be able to make it back next weekend to face the Seattle Seahawks. Injuries have hampered Daniels in his sophomore season, as this week will be his third missed game of 2025. If the 24-year-old only misses one game this time around -- he missed two contests earlier this year with a knee sprain -- he'll be returning to a tough matchup against Seattle in Week 9.

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs (concussion) has upgraded out of the red non-contact jersey that he wore during practice on Wednesday, according to Jake Arthur of Locked on Colts. Downs suffered a concussion in Week 6 and was inactive in last week's win over the Los Angeles Chargers. However, the 24-year-old was limited in the first practice of the week on Wednesday and is trending in the right direction to gain clearance from the league's concussion protocol by the weekend. Downs is still up in the air to play in Week 8 against the division-rival Tennessee Titans, but if he continues to make progress, he could return on Sunday. Before his head injury, Downs was on an upward trajectory as the Colts' WR2, catching 12 of his 15 targets for 96 yards and a touchdown in his last two games. If he returns against the Titans, it will be bad news for fantasy managers looking to stream Alec Pierce in Week 8.

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are being monitored by receiver-needy teams ahead of this year's trade deadline, sources are telling Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports. Both Olave and Shaheed are set to become free agents after the 2025 season and share the same representation. The Saints are currently sitting at 1-6, and several teams around the NFL are wondering if they might move one of the two wideouts for future assets. Olave, who is a former first-rounder, is the bigger name and has been a fantastic value pick for fantasy managers this year, catching 44 passes for 440 yards and three touchdowns through seven games. The 25-year-old continues to be a must-start in fantasy lineups despite working with quarterback Spencer Rattler in a limited Saints offense, but his fantasy stock has room to rise if he's traded elsewhere. Shaheed, meanwhile, has been an even more volatile boom/bust deep threat, catching 30 of his 45 targets for 356 yards and two TDs in his seven games.

Miami Dolphins tight end Julian Hill (ankle) was not seen practicing on Thursday, according to David Furones of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Hill also missed practice on Wednesday with his ankle injury and appears headed towards missing the team's Week 8 contest on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. He isn't really on the fantasy radar, but it's worth noting for a flailing Dolphins team that just placed tight end Darren Waller (pectoral) on Injured Reserve this week. If Hill is also unavailable this weekend, the Dolphins will be down to Tanner Conner and Greg Dulcich at the position. With quarterback Tua Tagovailoa struggling mightily through seven weeks, don't be surprised to see Miami lean more on its backfield going forward. Fantasy managers should avoid Miami's TE situation entirely.

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson (knee) was not seen at practice on Thursday, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN. Head coach Aaron Glenn said that Wilson was day-to-day, but the star wideout has yet to practice this week and looks headed for a second straight absence in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals after hyperextending his knee in the Week 6 loss to the Denver Broncos in London. At this time, fantasy managers shouldn't plan on having Wilson available for this weekend's action. If he misses a second straight game, the Jets will once again go with Josh Reynolds, Allen Lazard, and Arian Smith as their top three receivers, with rookie tight end Mason Taylor also being one of the top pass-game targets for either quarterback Tyrod Taylor (knee) or Justin Fields. That would not be a recipe for success as the Jets seek their first victory of 2025.

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said last week that running back MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring), who has been on Injured Reserve for the first seven weeks, was getting closer to practicing. However, the team still has not designated Lloyd to return from IR, and he has not resumed practicing with the team as they prepare this week for a Sunday night battle with the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8. Perhaps Lloyd will have his 21-day practice window opened next week, but even then, he wouldn't be a lock to make his 2025 debut in Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers. There have been rumors that the Packers are making calls ahead of the trade deadline on RBs, so maybe Lloyd isn't as close to a return as the Packers are leading on. The former third-rounder has been a major bust for the Packers so far due to injuries, playing in just one game since the start of last year.

Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright has "practiced well recently" and has "been great in meetings," according to running backs coach Eric Studesville. Wright was active for the Week 7 blowout loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday after he was a healthy scratch the two weeks prior, but he still didn't see a carry while playing only nine offensive snaps. The 22-year-old speedster got a late start to the season due to an injury suffered at the end of training camp, and he has so far been relegated to RB3 on the team's depth chart behind workhorse De'Von Achane and rookie Ollie Gordon II. The 1-6 Dolphins could be transitioning to more of a run-heavy approach going forward, with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa struggling mightily as a passer without receiver Tyreek Hill (knee). The Dolphins may look to involve Gordon and Wright more alongside Achane in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons. Still, Wright isn't rosterable in the vast majority of fantasy leagues.

Kicker Jude McAtamney has returned to the New York Giants' practice squad on Thursday on an International Player Program exemption after the team released him earlier in the week, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN. With regular kicker Graham Gano (groin) on Injured Reserve, McAtamney was the team's fill-in placekicker from Weeks 4-7, but he was cut this week after his two crucial missed extra points proved to be the difference in the team's 33-32 loss at the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Gano has returned to practice this week and could make his return from IR this Sunday against the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles, but if he doesn't, they have the option of elevating former Atlanta Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo from the practice squad. The 25-year-old McAtamney, who is from Northern Ireland, made both of his field-goal attempts but missed three of his 12 extra points in his four games with New York.

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said on Thursday that wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks (calf) is unlikely to play on Sunday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN. Wicks injured his calf in the Week 7 win over the Arizona Cardinals and wasn't able to practice on Wednesday. The 24-year-old probably won't practice on Thursday, either, but he hasn't officially been ruled out for the weekend just yet. The 24-year-old hasn't been much of a factor in Green Bay's offense through seven weeks, even with Jayden Reed (collarbone) on Injured Reserve. The former fifth-rounder has a total of only 13 receptions for 134 yards and no touchdowns on 20 targets. The good news for Green Bay is that receiver Christian Watson (knee) appears to be trending towards being activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list to make his 2025 debut on Sunday night.

The Miami Dolphins restructured the contract of starting linebacker Jordyn Brooks on Thursday by converting his base salary into a signing bonus, which in turn creates $3 million in salary cap space for this season, according to Field Yates of ESPN. Brooks has been one of the few bright spots for the 1-6 Dolphins this year, as he currently leads the league with 75 tackles (46 solo) through the first seven weeks. The 28-year-old is under contract with Miami through the 2026 season. In addition to his NFL-high 75 tackles, Brooks has 1.5 sacks, three tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. Miami will need him to be at his best in Week 8 as they look to slow down Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson, who is one of the best at his position.

With the status of quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) still uncertain, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch noted that the Iowa State alum's style of play is what's keeping him off the field for an extended period of time. "Brock knows he plays a certain way. And he can't change the way he plays to make it easier to (get on the field)," said Lynch. "We're trusting Brock and we're trusting the doctors." As we've seen twice in 2025, turf toe can be a more severe injury than the name might suggest. Purdy's lengthy bout with the issue, while unfortunate, isn't the worst-case scenario, though he seems to have a good shot at being inactive again in Week 8. If that's the case, fellow signal-caller Mac Jones (knee, oblique) would again man the helm when San Fran faces the Houston Texans on the road.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka (hamstring) was spotted at practice on Thursday, according to Pewter Report. The standout rookie ultimately suited up in the team's loss to the Lions in Week 7, although he wasn't seen at practice on Wednesday. It undoubtedly bodes well for his status ahead of Tampa Bay's Week 8 road matchup with the New Orleans Saints. Fantasy managers will still want to keep an eye on his game-time designation this Sunday, but he projects to be out there after playing 75% of snaps on Monday night. Look for him to get back on track against a Saints squad that's yielded the sixth-most points per game (26.6) if he's good to go, particularly with the Bucs down a myriad of skill players.

Seattle Seahawks tight end AJ Barner took a slight step back in his team's 27-19 win over the visiting Houston Texans, failing to build off the momentum he carried over the previous two contests. Barner had amassed ten receptions, 124 yards, and two touchdowns across his outings in Weeks 5 and 6. Still, he vanished on Monday night as fellow tight end Elijah Arroyo (4/42) ranked second on the team in each significant receiving category. Barner still handily out-snapped the rookie (62-27) and logged his fifth game this season with an 80% or greater snap share. Furthermore, it's still favorable that he'll be decently involved in the team's offensive attack moving forward. With that said, it's a stark reminder that wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the only set-it-and-forget-it option in the Seahawks' passing game. Barner will try to get back on track in Week 9 following Seattle's bye.

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed pass-rusher Brandon Graham to a one-year, prorated contract worth $4.89 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The former thirteenth-overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft is officially returning to the team that selected him. Graham didn't make much of an impact in 2024, compiling 20 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and one forced fumble across 11 appearances. He'll be an excellent locker room presence/rotational piece, though, as the team attempts to run it back after a Super Bowl victory earlier this year. As of now, the 37-year-old is listed as a linebacker (second-string) behind teammate Azeez Ojulari (hamstring). However, Philadelphia will have some time to finalize its plans for the veteran, as he'll need to be officially activated before returning to the field.
From RotoBaller
Green Bay Packers running back Emanuel Wilson was not impactful for fantasy in Week 7 despite racking up a season-high in backfield snap share (34%). Wilson was expected to see an elevated workload while teammate Josh Jacobs (calf) dealt with an injury and illness. While the 26-year-old was out there quite a bit to spell Jacobs, it only amounted to seven touches (six carries) and 15 total yards of output. Wilson is clearly the team's preferred second option ahead of Chris Brooks, although it hasn't amounted to enough value for fantasy managers to feel comfortable starting him with Jacobs active. For now, he's exclusively on the handcuff radar. However, that could change with the impending return of backfield mate MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring).
From RotoBaller
Updating previous reports, Philadelphia Eagles DE Brandon Graham received a one-year contract worth a prorated value of $4,895,500. That pays him $2.44M for a little more than half the season, including a signing bonus of $1,677,500.

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Ryan Flournoy has cooled off after his brief breakout stretch in Weeks 5 and 6, when he totaled nine receptions for 144 yards. In Week 7, Flournoy was held without a target, coinciding with the return of star receiver CeeDee Lamb. Flournoy's snap share dropped from 65% during his productive stretch to just 28% in Week 7, as Lamb reclaimed his dominant role in the offense. With George Pickens and Jake Ferguson also commanding targets, Flournoy is now buried in a crowded depth chart. Fantasy managers can confidently drop Flournoy in all formats moving forward.
From RotoBaller
Washington Commanders wide receiver Luke McCaffrey was held without a catch in the team's 44-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7. It was a prime opportunity for a breakout, with the Cowboys ranking last in the NFL against wide receivers, and Terry McLaurin (quad), Deebo Samuel Sr. (heel), and Noah Brown (groin) all sidelined. Despite the ideal setup, McCaffrey played just 52% of the snaps, finishing behind Chris Moore and Jaylin Lane, and nearly even with Robbie Chosen, who was making his season debut. With McLaurin and Samuel both expected to return soon, McCaffrey's role will likely shrink even further. Fantasy managers can safely move on from McCaffrey in all formats.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (knee) has yet to have his practice window opened, as he continues to recover from the multi-ligament knee injury that ended his 2024 season prematurely. While there's been speculation, he could miss all of 2025, general manager John Lynch recently noted that Aiyuk is "getting better and closer to a return." If he does make it back this season, Aiyuk will likely be eased in gradually, as most receivers returning from a major knee injury need time to regain form. By the time he's ready, the 49ers' receiving corps should be back at full strength, which could limit his target share in 2025. Fantasy managers should keep Aiyuk stashed in IR spots and remain cautiously optimistic about a late-season return.
