Lions CB Terrion Arnold (shoulder) to miss extended time

Mon Oct 6 3:56pm ET
Field Level Media

Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold is expected to miss extended time with a shoulder injury, head coach Dan Campbell told reporters Monday.

Arnold, 22, was injured during Sunday's 37-24 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Campbell stopped short of saying his second-year player will miss the remainder of the season.

"We put a lot on him (Sunday) and I thought he answered the bell," Campbell said about Arnold on Monday. "Unfortunately, he's going to be out for a while. He's going to be out for a long time."

The injury to Arnold comes after cornerback D.J. Reed was placed on injured reserve last week because of a hamstring strain.

Arnold started all five of the Lions' games this season with 22 tackles and four pass breakups. The first-round draft pick in 2024 has a fumble recovery, 82 tackles and 14 passes defensed over two seasons with the Lions.

Detroit (4-1) next plays at Kansas City (2-2) Sunday night.

Five Fantasy Takeaways: Week 5

Player Notes
DeVonta Smith Oct 6 3:13pm CT
DeVonta Smith

Dynasty | Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith had eight catches for 114 yards in a loss to the Broncos. Dynasty Analysis: Smith busted free for a 52-yard gain and finally posted his first game with more than 60 receiving yards on the season. His ten targets led the team as Denver clearly focused much of the game plan on stopping AJ Brown with their elite-level secondary. Smith will need to build upon this performance to be trusted moving forward but this was a huge step in the right direction. His ADP drop will stop as a result of this mini-breakout.

CeeDee Lamb Oct 6 3:13pm CT
CeeDee Lamb

Dynasty | Cowboys wide receiver Ryan Flournoy had six catches for 114 yards in a win against the Jets. Dynasty Analysis: Wait. What? Flournoy surpassed 100 yards in the first half alone this week and cruised to a career high on the day. He tied Jake Ferguson for the team lead in targets with nine and looked like a player who has progressed quite nicely over the past year or two. With CeeDee Lamb and Kevontae Turpin both out with injuries, you could say he took advantage of his opportunity. We'll need to see a lot more from him moving forward in order to recommend him but he could move up to the WR3 spot in Dallas behind Lamb and George Pickens if he continues to play well. At this point, he simply looks like a solid waiver wire pickup and roster stash.

Jaydon Blue Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Jaydon Blue

Dynasty | Cowboys running back Javonte Williams had 135 rushing yards and a touchdown, adding one catch for four yards and another touchdown in a win against the Jets. Dynasty Analysis: The Williams revenge tour is in full swing as it seems he's out to prove to anyone and everyone that news of his demise were greatly exaggerated. He's simply been one of the best running backs in football and it honestly has come out of nowhere. After five weeks, we have a big enough sample to size to believe what we're seeing and his ADP and ranking are skyrocketing as he's made Miles Sanders, Jaydon Blue and everyone else on the roster irrelevant.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Mason Taylor Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Mason Taylor

Dynasty | Jets rookie tight end Mason Taylor had nine catches for 67 yards in a loss to the Cowboys. Dynasty Analysis: It's completely and totally fair to call the Jets the worst team in football. After all, they're the only team to have failed to win a game this year and have an unhealthy point differential of -45 on the season. Still, Taylor has been a bright spot lately and while he has yet to cash in with a touchdown, he does have 14 catches over his past two games, putting him squarely on the dynasty radar. He's clearly moving up the dynasty and rookie rankings.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Geno Smith Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Geno Smith

Dynasty | Raiders quarterback Geno Smith completed 25-of-36 passes for 228 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in a blowout loss against the Colts. Dynasty Analysis: Now with just two touchdown passes and five interceptions in his last two games, Smith is hardly blameless in the realm of a 1-4 start and four game losing streak for the Raiders. His rating and QBR are down dramatically this season as it seems the reunion with Pete Carroll just hasn't worked. He's in no danger of losing his job but the idea Smith and Carroll are some kind of long-term solution in Las Vegas seem like quite the pipe dream. The Raiders are a mess and Smith is quickly losing dynasty value as a 34-year old quarterback who simply isn't playing well.

Ashton Jeanty Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Ashton Jeanty

Dynasty | Raiders rookie running back Ashton Jeanty had 67 rushing yards, five catches and 42 receiving yards in a loss to the Colts. Dynasty Analysis: It's fair to wonder just what the Raiders were thinking when drafting Jeanty. It's not that he's a bad player because he's clearly not. However, running backs are more luxuries than necessities and this team is a disaster at the moment. Jeanty is going to have some big days this year but the thought of him being a true RB1 on a team playing this poorly is hard to really fathom. Jeanty's dynasty value is pretty stable, though it may go down before it goes up again as he continues to play in games with negative game scripts.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Jonathan Taylor Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Jonathan Taylor

Dynasty | Colts running back Jonathan Taylor had 66 rushing yards, one catch, nine receiving yards and three touchdowns in a blowout win against the Raiders. Dynasty Analysis: The yardage totals aren't much to write home about but the three touchdowns keep Taylor squarely in line to be the MVP in dynasty leagues this season. In short, he's been simply impossible to stop and his seven touchdowns in five games are winning dynasty games single-handedly. His dynasty value can't climb too high being 26 already but it's about as good as it gets at the moment.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Daniel Jones Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Daniel Jones

Dynasty | Colts quarterback Daniel Jones completed 20-of-29 passes for 212 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in a blowout win against the Raiders. Dynasty Analysis: Jones may not have the most unbelievable stat lines each week but his QBR is #1 in the leagues and his overall rating is #8. In other words, Jones has been incredible in his first five games, leading the Colts to a 4-1 record and shocking the rest of the NFL in the process. He's re-established himself as a solid dynasty QB2 and if this is the first of more multi-touchdown performances, he's going to be close to the QB1 line soon.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Tyler Warren Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Tyler Warren

Dynasty | Colts tight end Tyler Warren had four catches for 44 yards and a touchdown in a blowout win against Las Vegas. Dynasty Analysis: Warren has already established himself as a TE1 with 23 catches and 307 yards through five games but touchdowns would make him a top-five option moving forward. A true star in the making, Warren has rewarded anyone who took him in the first round of rookie drafts this off-season. He'll look to keep things going against the woeful Cardinals next week.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Chuba Hubbard Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Chuba Hubbard

Dynasty | Panthers running back Rico Dowdle had 206 rushing yards, three catches, 28 receiving yards and a touchdown in a win against Miami. Dynasty Analysis: Dowdle was solid for Dallas last year but they moved on from him this off-season, forcing him to sign a deal with the Panthers to back up Chuba Hubbard. With Hubbard out with an injury this week, Dowdle took over the backfield and simply annihilated Miami. Had it not been for some late game cramps, he would have set the all-time record for rushing yards in franchise history (210 is the record set by DeAngelo Williams). This performance is likely going to create a bit of a timeshare moving forward when Hubbard returns which could prove to be great for the Panthers but awful in fantasy football. Regardless, Dowdle will be a must-start next week in a #revenge game against Dallas should Hubbard sit out again.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Jaylen Waddle Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Jaylen Waddle

Dynasty | Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle had six catches for 110 yards and a touchdown in a loss to the Panthers. Dynasty Analysis: With Tyreek Hill out for the season, Waddle did indeed take over the Dolphins top pass catchers, leading the team with nine targets on the day. He'll need to do more for the 1-4 Dolphins to climb out of the hole they've put themselves in but this was a huge step in the right direction. Waddle's dynasty value is again on the rise as Tyreek Hill is no longer expected back in Miami next season and he should move forward as their WR1.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Darren Waller Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Darren Waller

Dynasty | Dolphins tight end Darren Waller had five catches for 78 yards and a touchdown in a loss against Carolina. Dynasty Analysis: With three touchdowns in his first two games with Miami, Waller has now quickly established himself as a weekly must-start in dynasty leagues. It's been an amazing return to prominence for the 33-year old Waller and has quickly made him a cheaper target for contending dynasty teams considering this very well may be his last year in the league. He'll likely cool off soon enough but it sure has been fun so far.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Tetairoa McMillan Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Tetairoa McMillan

Dynasty | Panthers wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan had six catches for 73 yards in a win against Miami. Dynasty Analysis: McMillan has been solid through five games, posting 24 catches for 351 yards. On pace for a rookie season with more than 1,000 yards, McMillan just needs to find the end zone to really make his mark in dynasty leagues as he's still yet to do so. What this likely does is open up a short buying window as he's established himself as Carolina's future WR1 despite not scoring a touchdown as of yet. Dynasty managers should take notice.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Ashton Jeanty Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Ashton Jeanty

Dynasty | Bucs rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka had seven catches for 163 yards and a touchdown in a win against Seattle. Dynasty Analysis: It just gets better every week with Egubka, who is now up to 25 catches for 445 yards and five scores on the year. It's been a fascinating start for the former Ohio State star, who clearly looks like a star already, not just a star in the making. All the talk this off-season was about Ashton Jeanty being the unquestioned top rookie and the debate between Tetairoa McMillan and Travis Hunter being the top receiver. In the end, Egbuka looks like the single best rookie in the draft at this point. If you benefitted from him falling to you, congratulations.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Sam Darnold Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Sam Darnold

Dynasty | Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold completed 28-of-34 passes for 341 yards with four touchdowns and one interception in a loss to Tampa Bay. Dynasty Analysis: Darnold attempted to throw a late pass away, only to have it ricochet off a helmet and be intercepted, sealing the game for Tampa Bay. Despite that blemish, he was nearly flawless, finding Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp and AJ Barner open throughout the day. While the loss stings, Darnold has completed 73.1% of his passes (#3 in the league), has thrown for 1,246 yards (#6), has nine touchdown passes (#9), has a quarterback rating of 114.8 (#3) and an overall QBR of 78.8 (#2). In short, Darnold is quickly proving last year in Minnesota was no fluke. He'll be on the QB1 line next week as the Seahawks travel to Jacksonville. His dynasty value is stabilizing by the day.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Sam Darnold Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Sam Darnold

Dynasty | Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught eight passes for 132 yards and one touchdown in a loss to the Bucs. Dynasty Analysis: Smith-Njigba now has a 34/534/2 line on the season, establishing himself as one of the truly elite players in all of fantasy football. Showing a quick connection with Sam Darnold early on this season bodes well for him and his future as well. Smith-Njigba is rolling at this point and starting to make a case for being one of the top five receivers in fantasy and reality moving forward. There's really nothing more to say.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Elijah Arroyo Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Elijah Arroyo

Dynasty | Seahawks tight end AJ Barner had seven catches for 53 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to Tampa Bay. Dynasty Analysis: Barner has made Elijah Arroyo irrelevant so far this season and now has four touchdowns on the year. It's been a quick rise for Barner who is clearly looking like a player who is going to garner lineup consideration moving forward. The buying window likely closed with this performance as Barner really does look like a legitimate weapon in fantasy football with Seattle's offense playing this well.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

James Conner Oct 6 3:13pm CT
James Conner

Dynasty | Cardinals running back Michael Carter had 51 rushing yards, five catches, 22 receiving yards, and one touchdown in a loss to the Titans. Dynasty Analysis: Carter had said earlier in the week that he was going to be the starter taking over for Trey Benson (who had subsequently taken over for James Conner) and that proved to be the case as he had 18 of the 25 carries by running backs and five of the six catches as well. Emari Demercado had the play of the game in just about every way as he busted a 71-yard run but spoiled it by dropping the ball before crossing the goal line. Carter should keep the job moving forward and could make for a solid short-term starter or rental for contending dynasty teams.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Cam Ward Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Cam Ward

Dynasty | Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward completed 21-of-39 passes for 265 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in a win against Arizona. Dynasty Analysis: Ward set a new career-high in passing yards and finally did his best to get Calvin Ridley the ball in the process. The bad news is Ward still has just two touchdown passes in his five career starts. He'll need to build on this performance and start making progress shortly to give dynasty managers some faith but the early returns on Ward just really haven't been great. His dynasty value and ranking are starting to sink a touch.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Cam Ward Oct 6 3:13pm CT
Cam Ward

Dynasty | Titans receiver Calvin Ridley caught five passes for 131 yards in a win against Tennessee. Dynasty Analysis: Ridley had only posted 141 yards in the first four games of the year, so this was a much needed performance, though it likely came on fantasy benches. Still, this reminded us he still does have a lot of talent and should Cam Ward turn the corner, he could still have a say in dynasty league winners later this season. He's not a recommended start at this point but clearly a player to monitor moving forward.
